The Behavior Technician assists in providing behavioral support to individual or small groups of students and staff in a therapeutic special education learning environment; to monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; and to perform a variety of other duties relative to assigned area of responsibility as deemed appropriate by the Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reinforce and/or provide positive behavior support to individuals or small groups of students in a special education learning environment as directed by the administration.

Observe and control behavior of students inside and outside of classroom according to approved procedures; report progress regarding behavior to teacher; assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, and general guidance.

Provide support to the school by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, and operating various educational equipment as needed; confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student’s needs.

Perform a variety of clerical duties as necessary such as: preparation of behavioral materials, recording points, taking attendance, and maintaining records and files.

Recognizing that the well-being of our students is paramount, ensure their health and safety by following all health and safety rules and regulations.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required, including acting as a substitute for absent teachers or teacher assistants.

Perform a variety of clerical duties as necessary such as: preparation of instructional materials, recording points, taking attendance, and maintaining records and files.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Two years of increasingly responsible child development experience. Prefer experience working within a day school setting.

A minimum of a High School Diploma with the above required experience. Postsecondary training in psychology, sociology, education or a combination of training and experience is desirable.

Current certification in Therapeutic Options, and the ability to carry out the procedure correctly (training provided during New Hire Orientation and yearly recertification).

Current certification in Adult and Child First Aid, CPR, and AED (training provided during New Hire Orientation).

Successful completion of background screenings (CPS, and fingerprinting conducted upon hire) and can be repeated on a yearly basis. A felony conviction will be grounds for immediate termination.

Successful completion of Dominion Care’s annual employee trainings

(Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPPA, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control, Human Rights, Unlawful Harassment Prevention, Mandated Reporting, Cultural Competency, Defensive Driving, Driver Safety Policy, and Employee Manual)

Successful completion of Child Abuse/Recognition Training

Completion of tuberculosis screening within 30 days of employment.
