JOB DESCRIPTION
A Preschool Teacher stimulates the intellectual, physical, and emotional growth and development for children ages three to five. Preschool Teachers do this by teaching them basic language skills, providing interactive learning activities, and ensuring their overall well-being.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develop, implement a program/curriculum consistent with the priorities and philosophy of the school. Revise curriculum as necessary. Reference the appropriate age group scope and sequence and progress report to assist with goals and objectives in planning;
- Provide for an environment that is developmentally appropriate and that meets the needs of individual children as well as the group. Help provide a stimulating learning environment for children, always working for their best interest;
- Create an inviting learning environment (organized space, variety of activities, etc.);
- Provide hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities in language arts, math, science and social skills;
- Foster independence;
- Regularly record observations of children in order to adjust teaching to their needs;
- Coordinate with outside professional, if needed and as appropriate;
- Implement safety policies for the school, playground, and field trips. Make sure a child/children are never unattended for any reason (utilize a walkie-talkie system when one teacher is alone with the class);
- Perform a physical “spot check” daily of each child upon arrival, noting any physical, medical or emotional symptoms that might indicate illness, neglect or abuse. Any such symptoms, unreasonable behavior, parental concerns, or other problems should be reported immediately to the Preschool Administrator;
- Maintain confidentiality; maintain records including medical and emergency forms for classroom students;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s Degree in related field or working toward degree or
· Degree in Early Childhood Education or working toward degree preferred or
· High School Diploma with experience in early childhood education, minimum
· Completes professional development and training as asked and when required
