Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering to lead the advancement and implementation of cold-formed steel engineering and manufacturing processes and technologies within their company and the continuous improvement of existing processes and methods.
The Director of Engineering receives broad direction from the Executive Management Team and is directly responsible for ensuring that the Company’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities will be utilized at maximum levels. The Director of Engineering will work proactively to drive the institution of continuous improvement initiatives.
Job responsibilities will include managing and supervising structural engineers, drafters, detailers and manufacturing supervisors for efficient engineering and manufacturing processes. Expert level knowledge is required for cold formed steel structural engineering, including the preparation of structural calculations, specifications, 3D modeling, preparation of manufacturing files for automated cold formed CNC machines, manufacturing planning and process supervision.
The director of engineering is usually the liaison between engineering team and manufacturing team while being in direct contact with clients, clients’ architects, engineer of records and project managers for effective and proactive coordination to ensure successful projects.
Responsibilities:
- Leads, mentors, and manages Structural Engineers and Manufacturing Supervisors.
- Evaluates manufacturing processes by applying expert design knowledge of cold formed steel load-bearing walls, non-load bearing walls, floor trusses, C-Joists, fabrications, and job-site assembly support.
- Oversees and drives improvements of manufacturing productivity by analyzing, planning, and streamlining manufacturing workflow.
- Assures product and process quality by improving and establishing standards.
- Leads preparing manufacturing plans quarterly and annually with accurate lead times and budgets.
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing engineering and manufacturing information.
- Identifies waste in production processes and develops workable solutions to reduce downtime, scrap, defects, and excessive movement.
- Champions continuous improvement efforts throughout engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Drives development of the manufacturing/process engineering technical expertise and talent to support the organization's goals.
- Proactively identifies cost-savings in the design, manufacturing, assembly, and handling of products and associated processes.
- Identifies and facilitates short-term stopgap solutions to address conditional process deficiencies and creates, implements long-term permanent solutions.
- Attending regular meetings with Executive Management to present status updates on current and future projects.
- Proposing improvement opportunities for future success.
- Maintains a positive, discrimination-free workplace for all employees.
Requirements:
- Structural Engineering, Bachelor’s, required, Masters or PHD preferred
- PE License, required
- Project Management: Minimum 10 years, required
- Leadership: Minimum 5 years, required
- Manufacturing Engineering: 3 years, preferred
- Lean Manufacturing: 3 years, preferred

Training:
Training and transitioning will be provided by the current Director of Engineering who is taking an executive management role in the company.
