PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
General Functions:
A teacher serves under the direct supervision of the building principal and/or assistant principal. Teachers are responsible for the students assigned to their care and for the supervision of teacher assistants assigned to their classroom.
A teacher has the responsibility to help students develop skills and knowledge consistent with the district’s curriculum and goals that will contribute to the students’ development as mature, able, and responsible adults. Teachers are responsible for maintaining a classroom climate which nurtures and supports the learning environment. Teachers are also responsible for the safety of their students both while inside and outside of their classroom environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree / Master’s Degree (2.75 GPA strongly preferred) without teacher certification.
- Preferred Teacher Certification with required endorsements for subject or grade level assigned
- Preferred Texas certified and highly qualified to meet state and federal guidelines w/Science of Teaching Reading (STR)
- ESL Certified is strongly preferred
- As of May 2014, all Prekindergarten and Elementary teachers must be ESL certified by the end of their first year of employment.
- Gifted/Talented certification strongly preferred.
- Elementary teachers interacting with identified Gifted/Talented students must complete the prescribed 30 hours of training by the end of their first semester. Teachers not interacting with Gifted/Talented students must complete this training before beginning their second year of employment.
- Experience with computers, software, and GOOGLE classroom is strongly preferred.

- Willingness to execute PD’s required for instructional development
- Willingness to utilize, learn and integrate technology into their classroom
Experience:
- Minimum of a year of classroom teaching experience strongly preferred
- Minimum of at least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Experience in multicultural settings with a diverse population of students/staff
- Experience utilizing GOOGLE Classroom and GOOGLE applications strongly preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies – The teacher shall:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Use the Montessori materials appropriately and consistently (learn and practice it)
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
- Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
- Ability to transition to virtual learning as needed and/or conduct virtual learning experiences in addition to “face to face” instruction.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Review various data sources but not limited to MAP, DMAC, Think through Math, CLI, etc..
- Uses the Outdoors as an extended classroom to teach various subjects, including but not limited to Science
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and or volunteer(s).
- Integrate technologies in the teaching/learning process.
- Utilize the GOOGLE classroom and Drive to maintain all school required documentation.
- Develop and execute student utilization of Google classroom for their needs.
- Develop meaningful student individual work plans for all students.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving the methods and habits of independent study.
- Facilitate age appropriate Student Led Conferences
- Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility in planning, preparing, and implementing at least one extracurricular activity, school sponsored club, or school sponsored event.
- Be a positive role model for students at all times
- Attend PTO, board meetings, and staff meetings as appropriate to your role.
- Support the mission, vision, and goals of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization – The teacher shall:
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, Love and Logic, Social Emotional Learning strategies, EFWMA Student Code of Conduct, and IEP.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Montessori materials, resources, and technology should be accounted for at the end of each day.
- Assist in the selection of appropriate instructional materials.
Communication – The teacher shall:
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, principals, and other colleagues.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Refrain from gossip and slander
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Keep their supervisor and/or principal fully informed with respect to conditions and needs of the classroom and of new techniques and materials being used.
- Receive consequence for unprofessionalism, tardiness, excessive absences and lack of interest/attention to his or her job responsibilities.
- Stay abreast with communication via email, GOOGLE, or announcements.
Professional Growth and Development – The teacher shall:
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, committee meetings, and work sessions as required by their supervisor and/or principal.
- Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other documents as required.
- Report grades in gradebook every Friday.
- Promote professional improvement through reading educational journals and books, exploring educational research, enrolling in college courses, participating in staff development activities, and membership in professional organizations.
- Read, follow, and abide by all rules, regulations, and policies of EFWMS District and follow directives from superiors.
- Follow the attendance policy as assigned by supervisor. Teachers arrive at 7:40 a.m. and the day ends at 4:00 p.m. except on Thursdays which are set aside as Professional Development days.
- Teachers are required to maintain 150 clock hours of P.D, therefore, EFWMA district requires teachers to maintain 30 hours of P.D a school year. 9 hours of the 30 hours should be hours during the summer.
- Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.
Policy Implementation – The teacher shall:
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, district philosophy, board policies, and present subject matter according to established guidelines.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Stay abreast of all policies
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
