**Job Title:** School-Based Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow
**Position Overview:**
As a School-Based Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow, you will engage in a supervised clinical fellowship within a school setting, focusing on the assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders in pediatric populations. Under the guidance and mentorship of experienced speech-language pathologists, you will work directly with students, educators, and families to provide comprehensive speech-language services and support the communication development of children in an educational environment.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Clinical Assessment and Evaluation:**
- Conduct thorough assessments to evaluate students' speech and language skills, including articulation, phonology, receptive and expressive language, fluency, and pragmatic language abilities.
- Administer standardized assessments, conduct informal observations, and collaborate with teachers and parents to gather relevant information and identify communication strengths and areas of need.
2. **Individualized Treatment Planning:**
- Collaborate with supervising speech-language pathologists and educational team members to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and treatment goals tailored to each student's communication needs and academic objectives.
- Design and implement evidence-based intervention strategies and therapy activities to address speech and language goals, support academic success, and facilitate social communication skills.
3. **Therapy and Intervention:**
- Provide direct speech-language therapy services to students individually, in small groups, or within classroom-based settings, targeting specific speech and language goals outlined in the IEP.
- Use a variety of therapeutic techniques, materials, and technology, including visual aids, games, storytelling, and assistive communication devices, to engage students and promote communication development.
4. **Collaboration and Consultation:**
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to integrate speech and language goals into students' educational plans and classroom activities.
- Provide consultation and training to school personnel on effective communication strategies, accommodations, and modifications to support students with speech and language disorders in the classroom environment.
5. **Documentation and Progress Monitoring:**
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of therapy sessions, progress notes, assessment results, and communication with team members, adhering to regulatory requirements and school policies.
- Monitor students' progress towards speech and language goals through ongoing assessment, data collection, and progress monitoring, adjusting intervention plans as needed to optimize outcomes.
**Qualifications:**
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Eligibility for clinical fellowship (CFY) as determined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Prior coursework or clinical experience in pediatric speech-language pathology, preferably within a school-based or educational setting, but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Commitment to ethical practice, cultural competence, and ongoing professional development in the field of pediatric speech-language pathology.
**Working Conditions:**
- Full-time position typically lasting nine to twelve months to fulfill the clinical fellowship requirement. Part time clinical fellowship opportunities are available as well.
- Requires mobility within the school environment, including navigating classrooms, hallways, and therapy spaces.
- May involve occasional travel for supervision meetings, professional development opportunities, or collaboration with other school sites.
