Overview:
Storagenergy is currently seeking a self-driven Senior Battery Scientist who will be responsible for developing and validating next-generation sodium-ion battery technologies for our new project sponsored by the Department of Energy. Expected duties include formulation development and specification, additive identification and selection, root cause failure analysis, and cost reduction activities, all to achieve market and/or customer targets. The Senior Battery Scientist will work closely with other engineers and scientists as part of cross-functional projects to complete challenging development projects, consistent with customer and manufacturing requirements.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or related fields.
- 5 years of experience in the battery industry.
- Strong foundational understanding of sodium-ion battery materials, production methods, operation principles, performance, and degradation pathways.
- Hands-on, independent, self-motivated contributor with strong problem-solving skills, and able to clearly communicate ideas with other team members.
- Technical writing ability with clear/concise written and oral presentation of data, analysis, and conclusions.
- Entrepreneurial attitude and willingness to execute on multiple projects and solve problems in a fast-paced start-up environment.
- Experience related to cathode material synthesis and/or recycling methods is a plus.
- Experience with project management is a plus.
- Experience with grants or other funding applications is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Synthesis and production of electrode materials for sodium ion batteries.
- Design, fabrication, and manufacturing of sodium ion batteries with low cost, high energy density, and long cycle life.
- Electrolyte formulation design focused on improving safety performance, including overcharge, abuse test, crush, etc.
- Interact with laboratory technicians, other scientists, and engineers daily to ensure statement of work tasks are completed within the agreed upon timeframe.
- Report work progress in both oral and written form.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
