Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or its equivalent, completion of an approved apprenticeship program, AND four (4) years of experience as a structural steel iron worker, or
- Six (6) years of experience as a structural steel iron worker.
- A certificate in welding is required.
A valid class C PA Driver’s License is required prior to appointment.

Position Summary:
The incumbent performs skilled Structural Iron Worker tasks following standard practices of the trade. Work involves the construction, dismantling, maintenance, and repair of iron and steel structures, the use of rigging, lifting, moving, and placing heavy timbers and steel members. The employee receives detailed instructions and works under the close supervision of a foreman and supervisor.
Overview:
Duties:
- Dismantles, constructs, and repairs small county bridges.

Repairs and maintains heavy equipment.

Repairs and maintains light and water towers.

Bolts, rivets, and welds structural members.

Installs and ties reinforcing bars for construction projects.

Erects and dismantles scaffolding in connection with repair work.

Performs related work/duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the structural iron worker’s trade

Erection and dismantling of scaffolding and rigging

Occupational hazards and safety precautions required in the work
Skill in:
Ability to:
- Use motorized equipment such as jackhammers, riveters, power saws, grinders, and welding and burning equipment.

Lift and carry approximately 50-100 lbs.

Climb and work at considerable heights.

Weld pipes and perform MIG welding.

Work a flexible schedule at any County location.

Work in varying weather conditions.

Navigate uneven walking surfaces in varying field conditions.

Tolerate construction noise, with or without protective equipment.

Complete assignments in a timely manner.

Follow policies and procedures of the Public Works Department
