This position oversees and performs the functions related to maintenance and upkeep of the City’s water distribution system as it pertains to water metering and customer billing issues. Works with customers and the Utility Billing Division in responding to questions concerning meter reading, meter accuracy, high water usage, low water pressure, service line leaks, customer internal leaks, and other service issues. Reads and repairs meters and electronic metering devices.
- Installs meters for new customers, changes out faulty meters, tests meters for accuracy and flow quantity. Takes care of daily work orders from Utility Billing Division.

Responds to customer’s questions of water usage, leaks, pressure problems, flow quantity and water quality.

Performs manual and equipment-assisted activities to maintain or repair existing lines and construct new lines.

Inspects, maintains and performs external repairs to water meters to include meter lids, boxes, curb stops, meter registers, etc.

Maintains a record of meters inspected and serviced, and registers checked and replaced.

Reads all water meters for commercial accounts and repairs meters as necessary.

Conducts equipment inventories.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education
-
Vocational or other technical school, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school or combination of education and experience
Experience-
One year to Three years experience in meter installation, removal, repair, testing, water service line repair and installation and customer service.
Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

Knowledge of Meter Services operations, meter reading, mechanical and computer electronic metering devices, and computer and testing equipment.

Knowledge of water distribution systems and be able to diagnose and provide solutions for system problems.
Ability to:-

Computer Skills:-
Ability to prepare and maintain reports in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Knowledge of work order tracking databases, and ability to enter and retrieve information from the database.
Other Requirements:-
Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test, physical exam, and functional capacity test.

Valid Class “C” Driver’s license with good driving record as defined by City policy.

Must possess, at a minimum, a Class “C” Water Distribution Operators license.
Monday-Thursday 7:30am-5:30pm, Friday 7:30am-11:30am.
