Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 5,400 TK-College students across 29 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Leadership Programs Director collaborates with BGCP staff at the Forest and the other sites serving high school students, including our East Palo Alto Clubhouse and school campus-based programs, and external partners to create and execute Character and Leadership Programs focused on creating leadership opportunities for high school students within the Redwood City Clubhouse (Forest High School Center) and the community.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage the Teen Staff program and provide opportunities for BGCP High School participants to gain work experience within the Clubhouse. Manage the day-to-day operations for the teen staff program including submitting timesheets, facilitating onboarding and training, and providing development opportunities.
Manage all Character and Leadership Development initiatives while tracking progress toward goals.
Advise and assist in the areas of project management, teen outreach, and volunteer recruitment, including 8th-grade transition, Keystone Leadership Program, Youth of the Year, and Torch Club.
What will I do?
Manage the successful development and implementation of the Character & Leadership programs
Host monthly development sessions for teen staff on one Saturday a month.
Support the Keystone Leadership Officers (teen members) to achieve success, including providing regular professional development sessions
Collaborate with BGCA and the Regional Advisory Council to receive the training and tools to implement each program component.
Assist with recruitment & retention for Forest High School Members. Support in designing recruitment initiatives.
Compile and obtain resources that focus on a knowledge of civic rights, responsibility, and engagement throughout BGCP Leadership high school programs.
Assist in planning and implementation of Community Friday events.
Serve as a liaison with Forest High School Center staff and Keystone members to maximize resources available for teen services.
Collaborate with other Forest High School Center staff to enhance Leadership Programs.
Assist with any additional projects as assigned by the Clubhouse Director.
Develop culturally relevant programming and activities that enrich the educational experience of Forest High School Center teens.
Introduce major/career exploration, career-related job and internship opportunities.
What will success look like?
Develop and implement monthly critical dialogues, expanding self-awareness and knowledge on relevant social issues in our society
Develop and implement monthly panels, forums, and/or workshops designed to expose students to the experiences of community leaders to reinforce the importance of leadership and civic engagement and share their personal knowledge, skills, and tools on how to become a civic entrepreneur
Retaining 15 Keystone members in the program with high levels of returning students
Keystone members host at least 4 large scale community service projects each year
Establish Youth of the Year Cohort each year of at least 10 members
Leadership programs have a presence on school campuses
QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to BGCP’s mission and vision
B.S. degree or relevant work experience
A minimum of one-year successful experience in an educational environment
Experience building relationships with diverse youth communities and constituents
Ability to motivate through positive reinforcement
Strong communication skills
Flexible in navigating a fast-paced environment
Preferred one year of experience working with 9th - 12th grade youth
Spanish fluency is a plus

Redwood City Clubhouse
WORK SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday 11:00am - 8:00pm
Occasional Saturdays
SALARY & BENEFITS
Employment Status: Full-Time Salary
Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 depending on experience (DOE)
