ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
NOTE: The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position or to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
Construct and repair overhead and underground distribution lines and equipment, safely and efficiently.
Perform work on energized and de-energized lines and equipment up to 7200 volts.
Respond to callouts and communicate the need for additional resources in a timely manner.
Respond to emergent after hours work and safely troubleshoot and repair all distribution circuits and equipment.
Perform other work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices and the ability to transmit such knowledge to subordinates.
Working knowledge and operation of underground fault finding procedures and equipment.
Skill in the operation of modern office equipment, computers, and software, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Ability to perform all assigned tasks standard to the industry while working from a wood pole with climbing gear, bucket truck, ground, vault, or manhole.
Ability to troubleshoot issues using general problem solving skills.
Ability to consistently demonstrate competency and understanding of all insulate and isolate procedures and the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
Ability to understand and follow a print, work request, and specification manual.
Ability to work safely independent of direct supervision.
Ability to proficiently ascend and work a standing wood pole and work from various heights, including an elevated platform (bucket truck).
Ability to remain on call, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for after-hours repairs, emergencies, and other related concerns.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.
Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.
This position is performed with working knowledge – incumbent has the ability to recall and apply important/commonly-used information from relevant source documents or in a particular subject field, has access to reference documents when necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of six years of experience in distribution construction and maintenance and previous supervisory experience. A minimum of eight years of experience in distribution construction and maintenance is preferred.
Must possess a strong working knowledge of distribution and substation safe work practices.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies required for the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
NOTE: All certifications must be current at the time of application, and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License, Class A.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Physical
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force repetitively to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
Ability to ascend/descend stairs, scaffolds, utility poles, and ladders.
Ability to traverse about a variety of environments and obstacles throughout the city, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to position oneself to work in confined and other difficult to reach spaces.
Ability to manipulate objects, demonstrate small, precise movements, and operate necessary equipment such as hand and power tools repetitively or continuously.
Environmental
Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, high voltage, gas lines, loud noises, and hazardous chemicals, etc.
Sensory
Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one’s surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
