Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional and appropriate nursing care to residents in accordance with the plan of care derived from physician's orders and Registered Nurse assessment.
Qualifications:
- Current Georgia State License and graduate of an approved LPN/LVN school of nursing.
- BLS certification (CPR and first aid).
- Minimum of one (1) year hospital experience and/or one (1) year nursing home care experience.
- Two (2) satisfactory references from past employers.
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of nursing practices, medical methods and techniques.
- Organized and multi-tasking – Ability to handle multiple priorities
- Competent in time management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Good judgment, decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Quick learner – ability to learn new nursing methods, equipment and applications.
Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Recognize and report symptoms that indicate changes in the condition of the resident to the nurse supervisor and nurse practitioner/MD.
- Accurately record resident's condition in the Nurses notes.
- Performs selected nursing procedures.
- Administering prescriptions in accordance with the laws of the state as prescribed by the physician.
- Applying dressings and cleaning wounds.
- Evaluating the needs of the residents and developing a care plan.
- Reporting to the RN or Physician if any adverse change is noticed in resident health due to medication administered.
- Assists with the rehabilitation/restorative care of residents.
- Participates in inter-disciplinary resident care conferences.
- Supervises Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s).
- Maintains the resident's equipment and room as necessary for resident care and safety.
- Participate in staff in-service programs and maintains required continuing education hours.
- Participates in regular performance evaluations.
- Demonstrate good communication and customer service.
- Promote resident/patient centered care.
- Abides by administrative policies regarding nursing coverage and responsibilities, scheduling availability, and provides support to the Nursing Department as deemed appropriate.
- When necessary, works on additional projects as requested by supervisor and/or Director of Nursing.
- Maintain a professional appearance while on duty or on premises, including the use of professional language and postures as well as appropriate footwear and clean and neat clothing, jewelry and hairstyles that are in accordance with dress policy.
Supervisory Responsibility: Supervision of certified nursing assistants.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds;
Mental Requirements: Ability to focus for extensive period of time on care of residents/patients, supervision of certified nursing assistants and resident/family interaction.
