ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs difficult professional and administrative work managing and directing the Child Welfare
and Adult Service programs of the Department of Social Services; identifies needs; develops and
implements social service programs; maintains records and files; and prepares reports; does
related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of
Social Services. Supervision is exercised over all personnel in these two units.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Thorough knowledge of theories and methods of psychosocial assessment and interventions
- Thorough knowledge of human growth and development and of social and family interaction
including knowledge of racial, ethnic, and other cultural groups in society – their values and
lifestyles and the resultant issues in contemporary life
- Skill in directing a staff of social workers and supervisors and related professionals and
students engaged in a variety of services
- Skill in listening to others with understanding and purpose, eliciting information, observing
and interpreting verbal and non-verbal behavior and in assembling relevant facts to prepare
required or needed documentation
- Ability to engage staff in efforts to resolve their own problems, in gaining trust and in
discussing sensitive emotional subjects in a non-threatening supportive manner
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates,
social agencies and the general public
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
***COPIES of College transcripts must be submitted with County of Moore Employment Application
- Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited school of social work and four (4) years of
social work or counseling experience, two (2) of which were in a supervisory capacity OR
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited school of social work and five (5) years
of social work or counseling experience, two (2) of which were in a supervisory capacity OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field or related curriculum, including at least 15
semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling from an appropriately
accredited college or university and six (6) years of social work or counseling experience,
two (2) of which were in a supervisory capacity OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
