Job Overview
Medical assistants administer para-professional nursing care. They work with members of the health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care. They record patient history in preparation for the office visit.
Also, they prepare the patient for the physician and administer and record laboratory tests. Additionally, they help in coordinating the organization of patient needs which include preparing and organizing patient clinic charts. Aside from that, they ensure the orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stock assigned rooms, and maintain an inventory of supplies daily.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Medical Assistant work under the supervision of a licensed practitioner to perform duties as directed to assist in providing patient care to assigned patients. A Medical Assistant is capable of performing all aspects of the MA roles and maintaining an organized workflow. This includes interviewing patients, taking vital signs, charting, as well as assisting in-office procedures.
Their main duties are as follows:
- Set up physician/clinician workstations
- Reviews schedules to prepare patient flow, checks for patient’s arrival status, greets and escorts patients to triage area, exam room, or procedure room
- Performs patient intake process (vital signs & history)
- Overseeing and participating in the day-to-day clinical care of patient
- Assist patients with Telemed (logging in for visits)
- Anticipates the physician's/clinician's needs and carries out orders (dressing removals, setting up patients for examination, having medical instruments on a mayo stand when appropriate)
- Performs clinical procedures
- Chaperone physicians when needed
- Translate for MDs when appropriate or have translation service ready for visit
- Enrolls/ responds to electronic patient messages in the patient portal program
- Assists physicians/clinicians in examinations and minor procedures
- Process lab specimens
- Process and handling of bio-waste using appropriate PPE equipment
- Maintains and cleans exam/treatment areas, specimen processing areas, and medical equipment after every use
- Transports soiled instruments to sanitation area; cleans and sterilizes by using appropriate solutions and autoclave
- Stocks exam rooms and procedure rooms
- Processing prescription refills, home health orders, and DME orders
- Maintains confidentiality when interacting with patients, families, personnel, and public
- Works in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards. Reports any unsafe conditions to their supervisor
- Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and company policy
- Presents a positive, professional appearance and conveys a professional demeanor in the performance of assigned duties
- Responsible for following all facility, organization, and department precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others

- Qualifications:
- Certification from an accredited medical assistant program
- 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience
- EMR experience a plus
- Bilingual English/Spanish speaking a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare team
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
