Lighting Designer Job Description
Position Overview: We are seeking a talented Lighting Designer specializing in low voltage residential projects. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating functional and aesthetically pleasing lighting designs that enhance the ambiance and efficiency of residential spaces. You will collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, and homeowners to translate their visions into practical and innovative lighting solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with architects and interior designers to understand project requirements and design objectives.
- Develop lighting plans that integrate seamlessly with overall residential designs while adhering to low voltage specifications.
- Select appropriate lighting fixtures, controls, and technologies based on project requirements and budget constraints.
- Create lighting layouts, detailed drawings, and specifications for installation.
- Produce design documentation such as wiring diagrams, architectural drawings, elevations, calculations, and project submittals.
- Conduct on-site visits to assess lighting conditions and ensure compliance with design intent.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to installation teams during the implementation phase.
- Generate Lighting System program takeoffs in the corresponding software platform (Crestron, Lutron, Control4, or Vantage) and work with the programmer as needed.
- Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in residential lighting design.
- Maintain client communication to ensure satisfaction and address any design adjustments or modifications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a Lighting Designer with a focus on low voltage residential projects with a minimum of 5 years field experience.
- Proficiency in lighting design software and AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and low voltage lighting principles.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Attention to detail with a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Certification from lighting design organizations is a plus.
