Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Operating Foreman and/or other designated supervisor personnel, operates various pieces of equipment, controls vehicles at the Landfill and performs litter control duties.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains and operates the front-end loader and roll-off truck, which includes but is not limited to daily walk around inspections of equipment to be operated, safe and observant operation and required documentation.
- Directs and controls vehicles unloading waste to the appropriate sites.
- Performs visual inspection of all waste loads to prevent disposal of unauthorized waste.
- Stockpiles green waste and performs load outs of mulch and compost, assist with trammel screen, woodchipper and windrow turner, training on all applicable equipment.
- Maintaining the Household Hazardous Waste area, separating wastes to the appropriate areas.
- Provides guidance and instruction to Landfill Spotters and/or other personnel working in the same area on a daily basis.
- Enforces Landfill safety requirements and prohibits scavenging by the general public.
- Provides customer service in a respectful and courteous manner.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Performs daily litter control, installs and cleans litter fences.
- Maintains weed control around buildings and fences, performs general facility and grounds maintenance work.
- Performs waste screening reports and ticket checks.
- Performs other job-related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Landfill regulations and procedures, traffic control, and hazardous waste materials.
- Ability to project a positive, concerned image to the public.
- Ability to do PM checks and minor repairs on equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, and the general public.
- Ability to work safely and follow safety practices and techniques.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 18 years.
- 1 year loader operator experience required, 2 years preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
- Current 40 hour HAZWOPER certification in active status, or ability to complete certificate in one year.
