The ESE Staffing Specialist under the direction of the Principal and Senior Director of Education and working in partnership with the Sr. Director of Education coordinates the delivery of exceptional student programs within the School. This position also provides technical assistance to ensure compliance of all appropriate Exceptional Student Education laws for school-based teams. This is a 196 (faculty schedule with 6 additional days during pre and post planning) day position.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as LEA in all placement meetings (initial, re-evaluations, dismissal) and:
- Reviewing referral and evaluation data
- Securing and disseminating additional information
- Facilitating the IEP/IFSP meeting including communicating with students’ parents/guardians in regard to legal rights and informed consent.
- Follow up IEP/IFSP committee recommendations/requests.
- Provide all documentation as required by UCP LEA.
- Utilizes behaviors consistent with Facilitated IEP training to conduct efficient and productive IEP meetings in which all participants feel valued and heard.
- Support and coach teachers through the writing and implementation of the QIEP process for students with disabilities. Assist in monitoring progress of IEP goals to ensure IEPS are implemented with fidelity.
- Systematically shares data with school to assist school staff in monitoring the achievement of students with disabilities and the schools’ satisfactory implementation of IDEA and Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) as related to QIEP. Support the MTSS Team meetings, data collection, assist in developing intervention plans, provide technical assistance to teachers/other faculty and identify/coordinate professional development.
- Review documentation for all IEP/IFSP and matrix to monitor compliance prior to submission to the state.
- Schedule appropriate meetings with multi-disciplinary team (school psych, diagnosticians, related service providers, etc.)
- Ensure tracking logs are updated and utilized efficiently.
- Serve as resource for questions related to IEP/IFSP goal writing/compliance, and Matrix completion.
- Serve as liaison/trainer for school level personnel regarding changes related to exceptional education in UCP/state and federal policy/legal changes.
- Assist in the development and conduct professional development to inform classroom teachers of the goals and objectives of the ESE procedures/program and ways of achieving them in the school setting.
- Maintain accurate ESE paperwork and supporting documentation to reflect the appropriate service delivery models and compliance with services for all ESE students as identified on the IEP, EP, IFSP or SP.
- Ensure each student has necessary ESE records in CUM folder/periodically audit compliance of student cumulative file.
- Assist in audit preparation as needed.
Education/Credential Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Florida State Teacher Certification in K12 ESE and General Education K6 or age 3 to grade 3
Minimum Experience:
- Prefer prior experience in a similar position.
- Strong knowledge of ESE Compliance procedures, IDEA, Child Find, ESE Program eligibility, program placement and demonstrated success in writing quality IEP.
- 3-year classroom teaching experience in a public-school ESE class.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate using written and oral communication skills.
- Organized and attention to details.
