Overview:
Responsible for leading/directing an estimating crew with the objective being to produce consistently accurate repair estimates on all types of railcars. These estimates must meet customer, regulatory and company standards including safety, quality and cost.
The individual filling this position will interact with customer service representatives, engineers, supervisors, quality managers, production, and human resources. The primary functional groups for this position are external customers, engineering, supervisors, and quality representatives. The primary area of impact for this position is the quality and monetary value of the repairs estimated and ensuring that the production needs of the facility is met. The decisions made by this individual are within the stated requirements of documented repair guidelines prepared by regulatory agencies, railcar engineers, and external customers. This position may have to supervise at minimum two to three hourly employees, therefore great communication and negotiating skills are essential. The primary focus of this position is preparation of an accurate inspection submitted in a timely fashion.
Responsibilities:

Plans, organizes and supervise shift production in accordance with priority goals and availability of resources of the Pre work & Inspection department. Performs in process quality audits to ensure the accuracy of the car estimate. Ensures the proper technique is being followed per standard work instructions. Ensures adequate and quality workmanship is achieved at both the inbound and outbound inspection stage.

Perform inbound and outbound inspections on all types of railroad cars and equipment. Inspector/Estimator must maintain FRA and AAR certifications to perform routine and non-periodic inspections Prepares accurate and detailed estimates of all repairs necessary to meet customer, regulatory and company expectations in the repair and service of all types of railcars. This is done utilizing established policies and procedures. Determines railroad and associated damage by preparation of Joint Inspection Certificate and validation of results

Directs activities of NDE and pre work personnel. In the absent of a supervisor the Sr. Inspector will serve as the back- up supervisor within the facility, with the primary departments being pre-work, finishing valve room.

Completes all require documentation to ensure accurate billing and communication of completed repairs.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience required (including certifications):
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must
At least 5 years railcar experience
WIS/VT certified
Key Competencies (non-technical behavioral skills, i.e. presentation, negotiation, customer service skills), in priority order. Select from “key competencies for job descriptions” list:
