This position is responsible for establishing the Respiratory Care Departments objectives in collaboration with other clinical and operational stakeholders including key physicians and other health care disciplines involved in the management of the Respiratory Care population. Serves as part of a collaborative management team focused on promoting the Mission, Vision, and Values of Riverside Health System and the Respiratory Care Department, embracing a person-centered philosophy while promoting Respiratory Care Services across the continuum and enhancing value-driven outcomes. Responsible for designing the organizational structure to support services for Respiratory Care populations, ensuring high quality patient care and enhancing accountability for value-driven outcomes.
What you will do
- Maintains awareness of DNV, CMS (Centers for Medicare Services) and other required quality and safety measures and provides Respiratory Therapy Leadership team with the information needed to maintain compliance with standards. Participates in strategic planning and quality initiatives. Creates an environment that facilitates the team to initiate actions that produce results. Facilitates Quality & Risk Management initiatives to develop and measure the effectiveness of patient safety and patient satisfaction. Continuously improves the delivery and outcomes of comprehensive, quality, personalized care in accordance with patient safety standards, standards of excellence and the Riverside Code of Conduct.
- Provides leadership, direction, and mentorship/support to the respiratory services team. Validates competencies and ensures unit policies and procedures are current and consistent with regulatory guidelines. Monitors for adherence to policies and procedures by use of audits, observations, and timely feedback. Sustains an environment of progressive and evidence-based nursing practice.
- Builds and maintains a trusting collaborative relationship with staff, peers, other disciplines and ancillary services, physicians, vendors, community leaders, nursing and other education programs. Creates and communicates the shared vision.
- Provides patient care as needed to meet patient care and operational demands.
- Analyzes financial statements, reconciles variances. Develops business plans and provides cost benefit analysis to manage financial resources. Reads and interprets benchmarking and financial data. Educates patient care team on financial implications of patient care decisions. Evaluates and implements capital acquisitions and renovation/building projects for assigned area as approved including development of system purchases, cost analysis, oversight alignment with strategic and goals. Conducts SWOT and gap analysis for program planning.
- Participates in the assessment and improvement of the health care status of the community served as a representative of RHS, individually or by facilitating staff/team involvement. Links customer needs with community endeavor, i.e. RHS Foundation, United Way, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society.
- Maintains knowledge, affiliation/networks with professional/civic/service organizations that support professional development/relationships that align with the mission, vision, and values of RHS. Inspires a shared vision for the department incorporating passion about the mission, vision, and values. Promotes and supports independent, autonomous nursing judgment, priority setting, and critical thinking skills.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree, Respiratory Therapy (Required)
Experience
- 3-4 years Recent relevant experience (Required)

- 1 year Supervisory or leadership experience. (Required)

Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Respiratory Care Practitioner Upon Hire(Required) and
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required) and
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required)
- ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 90 Days(Required) and
- PALS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Preferred)
