At Doncasters, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an Automation Specialist to join our team.
The Role
The Automation and Controls Technician uses technology to improve, streamline and automate manufacturing, as well as many other processes to reduce the need for human intervention and maximize efficiency. They are responsible for planning, developing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining such technology.
The Automation and Controls Technician will identify new opportunities for automation within the manufacturing processes and lead collaborative discussions between leadership and key stakeholders to determine automation capabilities and goals. Additionally, this person will design, implement and analyze new automation equipment, software and processes all while creating, implementing and executing detailed road maps to guide automation projects from conception to final implementation.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain clear and accurate documentation of the automation equipment or processes, program new automated components to the manufacturing processes, and troubleshoot to repair automated processes or equipment when errors occur. Furthermore, this person will be responsible for implementing and executing planned predictive maintenance necessary to optimize equipment reliability.

If you have any of these skills, we would love to hear from you;
A minimum of 2 years of PLC programming experience (Rockwell Automation products, MicroLogix and FactoryTalk is required) in an electrical or instrumentation and control engineering position.
Extensive experience with industrial communication design and configuration (using Modbus TCP/IP protocol).
Self-starter with excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment effectively.
Experienced with designing and testing automated machinery and processes at industrial facilities preferred.
Proven ability to interface with craft for troubleshooting and problem solving.
Experienced with producing P&IDs, Control System Narratives, I/O Lists, Cause and Effect or Logic Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Factory Acceptance Test Procedures, and Software documentation including O&M manuals.

Requirements:
3 years previous experience in a similar role.
Ideally you will have completed an Advanced Apprenticeship or HNC equivalent in in Electrical engineering with a good PLC knowledge in programming, fault finding and diagnosis.
