I. JOB SUMMARY
The Business Manager is directly responsible for The Arc’s Beyond Bones business. Beyond Bones creates all-natural dog treats in an inclusive workplace that employs individuals with a wide range of skills. The mission of Beyond Bones is to cultivate opportunities for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities to grow both personally and professionally and contribute to their community in a meaningful way.
The Business Manager will divide their time between interacting with employees and volunteers, increasing sales of Beyond Bones treats, and completing managerial tasks to ensure business continuity and growth. They will review financial statements, pay bills, order necessary supplies and baking ingredients, and monitor feedback from customers to determine areas for improvement. This position will readily assist the Executive Director with many tasks that ensure effective operations and growth of Beyond Bones and will be asked to problem solve, run errands, and communicate with others on an ongoing basis to assist in the carrying out of the agency’s mission.
A good Business Manager has a natural ability to lead, motivating them to encourage employee productivity and ensure program quality. They have an innovative mindset that allows them to develop unique marketing ideas and determine creative ways to get more funding and increase sales. Further, a good Business Manager has excellent verbal communication, allowing them to lead discussions, perform public speaking duties and communicate clear ideas to their staff and customers.
II. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Identify and secure sales opportunities for Beyond Bones products including wholesale, retail and online sales;
- Coordinate and monitor customer outreach and retention;
- Assist the Executive Director with developing, implementing and evaluatingprogram policies, procedures, and standards;
- Assist the Executive Director with monitoring the program budget, boardrelationships, and funder expectations;
- Responsible for fundraising, budgeting and outreach for Beyond Bones
- Order and stock ingredients;
- Participate and represent Beyond Bones in local partner/funder meetings and events as requested and as needed;
- Identify and schedule, and possibly participate, in west Michigan markets for Beyond Bones;
- Provide complex administrative and operational support with minimalsupervision including accounts payable and receivable for Beyond Bones and The Arc;
- Adhere to and enforce all safety procedures;
- Evaluate and assess the programs’ strengths and weaknesses, create and implement goals to address identified areas of growth;
- Maintain confidentiality as required by law, and expectations of The Arc of Allegan County;
- Ensure that licensing and tax obligations are kept up to date;
- Additional duties as assigned.

V. JOB SPECIFICATIONS
The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required to be successful in this position:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, or human service related field;
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities;
- Preferred two to five years of experience in the public, nonprofit, or businesssettings;
- Preferred sales experience
- Understanding of nonprofit organizations management;
- Excellent communication skills; verbal and written;
- Good Judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills;
- Excellent planning, organizing, time and work management skills;
- Ability to utilize tools or design systems and processes to track data and monitorprogress;
- Ability to use office equipment and technologies including computers, scanners, copiers, telephones, voicemail system, email systems and internet;
- Ability to pass a background check;
- Patience and compassion when dealing with others, especially those from different backgrounds.
- Willingness to adhere to and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
