School Psychologist - District
Purpose Statement
The job of School Psychologist - District is done for the purpose/s of measuring and interpreting the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children; interpreting results of psychological studies; data-based decision making, and delivery of evidenced-based interventions. School Psychologists will collaborate and consult with educators, families, and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments for all students.
This job reports to Director of Student Support Programs
Essential Functions
Assesses students utilizing standardized and/or supplemental assessments for the purpose of measuring the emotional, intellectual, adaptive, academic, and social development of children for the purpose of developing recommendations for support and/or placement.
Collaborates and consults with teachers, administrators and other staff in building or district (e.g. site intervention teams, district problem-solving team, etc.) for the purpose of identifying for, providing to, or connecting students and/or families with appropriate resources to ensure educational success.
Compiles information from a variety of sources (e.g. teachers, nurse, probation officer, mental health agencies, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of producing a comprehensive evaluation report in compliance with established guidelines to meet the needs of specific students.
Coordinates with community agencies including medical, judicial, social service and mental health services for the purpose of determining appropriate treatments, etc. to meet the needs of specific students.
Develops individualized plans for students on long-term suspension for the purpose of academic programming and social emotional support to facilitate progress toward successful progress toward graduation.
Facilitates and participates in meetings and workshops (e.g. personnel actions, community involvement, actions involving outside agencies, interdepartmental needs, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a District representative.
Implements school wide program development and program evaluation (e.g. crisis intervention services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. e.g. extension requests, correspondence, memos, behavior plans, reports, required documentation, Psych Ed Summary, Psych Report, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. e.g. transition plans, referral processes, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district’s goals and objectives.
Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals.
Responds to emergency situations (e.g. e.g. mental health crisis, threat assessments, etc.) for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.
Experience: Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education: Doctoral degree in job-related area.
Equivalency: EdS, PhD or PsyD from an approved program in psychology.
Certificates and Licenses: Certificate of Nationally Certified School Psychologists issued by the National Assoc of School Psychologists (NASP)
