Position Summary
The Learning Design and Experience Specialist position requires a working knowledge of Parents as Teachers (PAT) to drive development of high-quality training courses, learner resources, manuals, and other cross-media products. The Specialist role combines training design, written communication, content knowledge, and organizational skills with PAT experience to support product and professional development for the field and the PAT trainers. This role ensures products reflect the Parents as Teachers tone and approach to working with families and partners.
The Specialist serves as a training and learning representative within cross-departmental teams, cross-organizational collaborations, conferences, and other forums. This position requires excellent project management skills and the ability to coordinate with internal and external partners. The Specialist will also serve as a PAT Certified National Trainer.
Candidate must have experience with the Parents as Teachers model.
Essential Functions
1. Training Design and Maintenance: (55%)

Develop high-quality content for Parents as Teachers training courses, learner resources, trainer’s manuals, and other cross media products.

Lead or support development of engaging learning experiences that align with organizational goals, operating principles, and competencies.

Serve as a reviewer and editor, ensuring that products and initiatives include current continuing education and training standards, and that they reflect the Parents as Teachers tone and approach to working with families.

Drive co-design efforts to include end user input, piloting, and field-testing of new and revised products and services.

Coordinate IACET efforts for courses, professional development, and the PATNC conference.

Use organizational tech tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Microsoft 365, Powtoons) as part of a development team. Serve as project team member and lead when needed.

Move training content through editorial processes and translation, as needed.
2. Engagement and Quality Assurance: (25%)
-
Support learner within professional development opportunities.

Ensure materials are developed with a diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion lens.

Work in collaboration with the Research, Quality, and Improvement to routinely review training evaluations and trainer feedback and provide feedback to trainers and a synthesis to TCP staff.

Routinely review internal and external feedback and use results to inform quality improvement efforts.

Ensure successful use of project management tools by guiding project set-up and tracking.

Participate in and support monthly Trainers’ Calls and annual Trainers’ Meeting.

Manage and track course revisions and learning content relationships and contribute to continuous quality improvement and innovation efforts.

Collaborate with internal and external partners to understand learner needs and profiles.

Participate in regular reflective supervision.
3. Subject Matter Expert (15%)

Maintains a working knowledge of the Parents as Teachers model, home visiting and family support services, PAT trainings, and the PAT Trainer Professional Development System and serves as a representative within cross-departmental teams, cross-organizational collaborations, conferences, and other forums.

Serve as a PAT National Trainer for web-based and on-ground trainings

Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Adult Education, Instructional Design, Social Work, or related field.

Master’s degree preferred.

3+ years of experience in the development of trainings or courses for professionals in the fields of early childhood or education

3+ years of experience facilitating trainings or courses
-
Demonstrated experience with published materials, whether bylined or not, is preferred.
Knowledge
-
Extensive content knowledge of research and best practices in family systems, child development, family engagement and parent education.

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams

Experience in Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop

Knowledgeable in instructional design principles, adult learning theory and the psychology of learning
