PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy this position encompasses professional, clinical, supervisory and administrative work of varying degrees with latitude for independent initiative and judgment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy Services
2. Assist the Director in coordinating staffing activities and the supervision of the overall operation of the pharmacy department.
3. Assist with implementing clinical initiatives as well as direct and measure staff performance in conjunction with guidelines.
4. Assist with Performance Improvement and Performance Evaluation Activities.
5. Provide education for Pharmacy staff, Medical staff and Nursing staff on evidence-based medication use practices
6. Contribute to the quality and effective operation of the pharmacy
7. Knowledgeable of Federal, State and local laws concerning the filling and dispensing of medications and orders.
8. Has direct responsibility as the pharmacy buyer overseeing the procurement of pharmaceuticals and in the management of overall pharmacy inventory
9. Resource person for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee and responsible for preparing cost-effective analyses of products being considered for Formulary addition
10. Responsible for assisting with staffing and scheduling
11. Able to communicate well with other health professionals and intervene on problematic orders as well as provide up-to-date drug information.
12. Assist in the daily day-to-day operation of the pharmacy including delegation of daily responsibilities to staff members.
13. Orient new staff members to the policies and procedures of the department.
14. Assist with the training of new staff members in various pharmacy functions.
15. Attend professional, administrative and management conferences
16. Actively participate in various Hospital and System committees as well as the Joint Commission and other regulatory activities
