POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a wet lab research setting. Performs multiple types of DNA/RNA extractions, molecular assays and other bench work under the direction of supervisor, manager or higher-level technician in a wet lab. Must have wet lab skills and experience.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
1. Performs DNA/RNA extraction from blood, cells or other biological material. Conducts Quality Control on samples utilizing NanoDrop, TapeStation, Qubit, Pico Green, etc.
2. Performs PCR, Real-time PCR and other biochemical assays
3. Maintains sample integrity by utilizing current software for data entry.
4. Normalizes samples for analysis; Pulls samples from and returns samples to the BioBank
5. Isolates PBMCs utilizing density gradient centrifugation
6. Assures compliance with established safety procedures. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained following established procedures. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
JOB LOCATION/WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE: Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment preferred. A general understanding of Laboratory Information System (LIMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field with theoretical background in biology, molecular biology and/or genetics. One year minimum wet lab experience.
