Qualifications:
1. NC Early Childhood Education Credential or its equivalent and 1 -2 years of experience working in a licensed child care facility or child care family home
2. Current Criminal Background Qualification Letter – no criminal conviction of a felony, violent crime or any crime involving moral turpitude, child abuse or neglect
3. Current medical report and tuberculin (TB) test
4. Pediatric First Aid & Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified
5. Maintain training requirements in compliance with the Infant Toddler Center policies and state licensing regulations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Considerable knowledge of the theory of modern group care
2. Thorough knowledge of physical, intellectual and emotional development of children ages birth to five (5) years.
3. Ability to communicate, orally and in writing
4. Ability to effectively communicate with parents and other staff members
5. Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, and other personnel
6. Understand NC Division of Child Development Rules and Regulations
Duties:
Licensing, Sanitation, and Health & Safety
· Report any suspected child abuse or maltreatment to supervisor
· Assure the welfare, health, and safety of all children in the program
· Clean and sanitize all toys, cribs, cots, counter tops, play equipment, bottle warmers, shelving, etc. on a daily basis
· Remain in compliance with all NC licensing and sanitation regulations and Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scales (ITERS) best practices at all times
· Maintain constant and appropriate supervision of all children in the classroom and on the playground
· Maintain required child-staff ratios
· Change diapers, pull-ups, and clothes as required
· Attend all required ongoing service training's (CPR/First Aid, ITS-SIDS, Health and Safety, etc.)
Classroom Environment & Management
· Maintain a safe and healthy environment while practicing positive discipline at all times
· Maintain a classroom environment in accordance to program goals
· Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary classroom at all times
· Assist with the implementation of educational, age appropriate activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practices, and the child’s individual needs
· Assist with the implementation of weekly lesson plans that meet emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each individual child
· Assist in maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom that includes complete centers that constantly change with seasons and/or theme related activities
· Inspect toys and equipment for damage or lost materials
· Maintain all components of toys and equipment assigned to each classroom
· Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
· Work according to schedule outlined by administrators, while remaining flexible when changes occur
· Attend all staff meetings, programs, and events
· Inform Teacher, Director and/or Assistant Director of any classroom problems as they arise
· Inform Teacher, Director and/or Assistant Director of needed supplies, repairs and/or maintenance requests in the classrooms or on the playground
· Accept and perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Teacher, Director, Assistant Director and/or Board of Directors
Interactions with Children & Families
· Maintain a professional attitude and relationship with all parents through open communication about their child’s day
· Notify teachers of accidents, incidents, and illnesses
· Direct parents to follow and abide by all NC licensing and sanitation laws, and/or other general program policies
· Maintain confidentiality of both children and parents
· Maintain accurate records as required of children
· Observe and monitor children’s play activity
· Participate actively in play on the children’s level
· Promote and encourage creative expression through scheduled activities and during free play
Be familiar with and carry out (on a daily basis) the standards set forth by the Division of Child Development, Department of Sanitation, Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS) or Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS).
