Bright Star Engineering’s Automotive Service Division is seeking a skilled Resident Automotive Diagnostics Engineer to join our team, stationed onsite at our customer's location. The primary objective of this role is to collaborate closely with the customer to define and validate dealer diagnostic tools effectively. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in automotive diagnostics, a strong technical acumen, and excellent communication skills to facilitate seamless interactions and ensure the highest standards of support and service for our client’s diagnostic needs.
The Automotive Diagnostic Engineer must be a highly motivated, self-starter that can manage many different projects at the same time. The selected individual must have a vast knowledge of vehicle on-board diagnostics including knowledge of diagnostic communication protocols.
Specific job responsibilities include:
· Specification, validation and support for vehicle communication interface (VCI) tools and processes
· Communication with internal and external stakeholders related to projects as assigned
· Coordination and support for launch issues related to new tools
· Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, automotive technology or equivalent work experience establishing a technical and business understanding relative to the job purpose.
· Minimum 5 years’ experience working with diagnostic scan tools
· Understanding of OEM Dealer service write up and repair processes
· Working knowledge of OEM VCI devices such as MDI 2, VCM 3, MDP, Antares Capsule, or CarDAQ
· Working knowledge of OEM diagnostic software such as wiTECH II, HDC, HDS, IDS, GDS2, or GDS
· Knowledgeable with CAN, J1850, K-Line and other automotive communication bus systems
· Familiarity with enhanced diagnostic communication protocols such as KWP2000 and UDS
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills
· Must be highly self-motivated and self-starter with strong interpersonal skills

Pay: $102,000.00 - $124,000.00 per year
