Job Title: Estimator - Steel Industry
Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000
Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team in the steel industry. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately assessing project costs, preparing competitive bids, and supporting our sales team in acquiring new business. Your expertise in the steel industry and construction will play a crucial role in ensuring the success and profitability of our projects. Responsibilities:
- Analyze project specifications, architectural, structural, and civil drawings, and other relevant documents to determine project requirements and constraints.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to understand project objectives, timelines, and budgetary limitations.
- Conduct thorough cost analysis, considering labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and other expenses to estimate project costs accurately.
- Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids and proposals, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Review and evaluate subcontractor quotes to secure competitive and cost-effective solutions.
- Maintain a strong knowledge base of the steel industry, including market trends, pricing fluctuations, and new technologies to inform cost estimates and bidding strategies.
- Collaborate with the sales team to develop effective strategies for acquiring new business and expanding client relationships.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and post-bid evaluations to gather critical information and refine estimates.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all estimation documents, including supporting calculations, unit costs, and project assumptions.
- Monitor and track project progress, comparing actual costs with estimated costs to identify discrepancies and adjust future estimates accordingly.
- Sales experience is a plus.
Qualifications:
- Engineering, construction management, or a related field desirable
- 3-5 Years of Experience Required
- Proven experience as an Estimator in the steel industry, preferably in construction or fabrication projects.
- Deep knowledge of steel-related construction processes, materials, and techniques.
- Strong understanding of construction project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk assessment.
- Proficiency in using industry-specific software and tools for cost estimation (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD).
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and produce accurate estimates.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
- Proactive problem-solving abilities and a results-oriented mindset.
- Familiarity with relevant industry regulations, codes, and standards.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
