Position Overview:
We are looking for a Design Manager with experience inmechanical engineering. The ideal candidate is familiar with California regulations, codes, and industry standards and can design compliant systems for our clients’ construction needs. They will have experience managing an outside team of third-party engineering partners and can comfortably work within estimated project budgets. Lastly, they understand the critical role of design in successful projects and enjoy working with a team while having autonomy over their workflow.
Responsibilities Include:
- Work with the preconstruction team by creating estimates, budgets, and from-conception-to-completion design options.
- Protect ICS from risk by helping the team understand code compliance and advocating as necessary. Ensure the compliance of designs.
- Lead the direction of design at ICS by working with the preconstruction sales team, estimating team, and clients. Utilize best practices and a high degree of accuracy to help ICS deliver successful, completed projects to our valued clients. Maintain high standards in design execution.
- Assist the preconstruction team with cost impact analysis of different systems and components.
- Communicate effectively between the ICS preconstruction team and third-party engineering partners, ensuring deadlines are met and projects stay on budget.
- Provide conceptual budgets and take-off estimates as required.
- Provide engineering support for change orders, as needed.
- Assist preconstruction executives with presentations and interviews demonstrating ICS’s value to clients and industry partners.
- Assist project managers with complex or critical submittals as directed by the supervisor.
- Act as the point of contact for clients regarding design-related matters.
- Maintain complete records of design changes, decisions, and progress.
- Maintain knowledge and proficiency in the latest design trends, code, and Title-24 requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Use knowledge and experience to assist management in finding ways to improve the process, design management, clash detection, estimating, coordination, prefab, etc.

Signs You’re a Good Fit:
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical system design: Your expertise in designing efficient systems will be invaluable.
- Field troubleshooting experience: You have hands on experience and a high level of system knowledge.
- Understanding of design impact on construction budgets: You recognize how design decisions affect the bottom line.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit: These tools are essential for success in this role.
- Experience in cost estimating and estimating software: Strongly preferred.
- Team player: You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy being the go-to expert for technical matters.
- Accountability: You’re comfortable ensuring that design professionals meet deadlines and create cost-efficient systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Solid understanding and detailed knowledge of mechanical and piping systems.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- A genuine interest in sustainable design and problem-solving.
- Optional: P.E. Certification is a plus, but not required
