Please do NOT apply for this position if you want a job at a really fancy, stuffy and uptight law firm. Those places might be really great but that's just not us.
That being said, at David Fogel P.C., we most certainly take the work seriously... but we try to have a good time gettin it done. In fact, if you don't have a demonstrated strong work ethic or reliability is not of the utmost importance to you, then you should NOT apply. It simply would not be a good fit for each other (and who wants that?).
If you’re truly awesome (read: you get along well with others, you take ownership of your work, you're genuinely happy to help, and you're somone who can be counted on) and you're somewhat intrigued by this job post, then know this: it is our pledge to ensure that you don’t dread coming into work every day. Heck, you'll probably miss coming into the office on the weekends (ok, ok, if you really want to come in on the weekends, we'll see what we can do).
Here’s the deal: we need someone who
- is awesome (see above for definition),
- is motivated and energetic,
- has a sincere desire to learn and grow,
- is a self-starter, and
- does not settle for anything less than excellence.
Can you check off each of these boxes?
As a Legal Receptionist, it's not only important to understand the substantive aspects of our files, but it is equally important to be able to proefessionally handle the phone calls and calmly manage multiple lines. That's where being the 1st Impression Maker comes into play... being the first voice and face of the firm, undoubtedlya pivotal role.
In additon to skillfully handling the phones, you will also be responsible for performing legal and clerical assistance, preparing legal documents, mailing and scanning… the day will be over before you know it (seriously). In order to succeed in this role, you must:
- have a desire to be on the phone,
- know how to juggle multiple calls simultaneously,
- have a postive attitude, and
- be well-spoken.
You will have significant contact with clients, counsel and others; therefore, excellent communication skills is a must. Also, you need to be comfortable sitting in the office reception area on your own (don't worry, we'll visit you plenty throughout the day!).
Additional duties may include assisting with the firm's marketing and social media (hashtags and all that jazz); calendaring appointments; court and bank runs; and maintaining office organization and office supplies.
Some additional things you should know before you hit Apply Now:
- 1+ year of paralegal/legal assistance experience preferred – we're happy to train
- 1+ year of receptionist experience required – and not just taking messages or transferring calls
- Desire and demonstrated ability to crush it. Every. Single. Day. required – energized and upbeat (lazy persons need not apply)
- NY Civil litigation/NYSCEF experience preferred – if not, no worries, we’ll teach you
- Organization and neatness required – it’s the only way to stay on top of your game
- Flexibility and ability to work alone and with others required – we got a lot to do, so you need to be able to be productive on your own and step up as a team player as needed
- Great computer (PC) skills required – you can be a Mac expert but you need to know the difference between left click and right click
- Enjoy a good slice of pizza preferred – this should speak for itself
- Sense of humor can't hurt – after all, we’re spending a lot of time together
This is a great opportunity for an aspiring paralegal.
