Pet Orphans of Southern California is a non-profit organization. We rescue cats and dogs from kill shelters from all over southern California. We have our own veterinary clinic on the premises, but the organization also offers grooming, professional pet photography, adoptions and fostering.
Our clinic is currently open to the public on M,T, W, and F, for surgeries. On TH wellness appointments. We do high quality, high volume spays and neuters, dental prophylaxis, and other soft tissue procedures. We see patients for wellness exams and for specific health issues. We do not currently see emergencies nor overnight patients.
We are seeking a veterinary assistant who is available to work Mondays - Fridays, starting August 1, 2024. We are willing to train, but the veterinary assistant should be at least semi-proficient in the following:
o Assisting the RVT and veterinarian by utilizing proper animal restraint techniques
o Handling animals of all sizes
o TPR technique
o Proper ear cleaning techniques, anal sac expressions, nail trims
o Assisting with monitoring anesthesia
o Proper anesthesia recovery techniques
o Assisting with blood draws and USG cystocentesis
o Administering vaccinations and understand proper vaccine protocols
o Administering medications
o Knowledge of CPR techniques
o Assembling surgical packs
o Utilizing IDEXX lab equipment
Other preferred skills and knowledge would include:
o Excellent communication skills
o Avimark veterinary software (preferred, but not mandatory)
The prospective employee must have:
o 1 year of general practice experience
