QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) AND/OR
NYS Certification in Special Education
Knowledge in Science Preferred
SALARY RANGE: $40,152 (BA-2) or $43,222 (MA-2)
- For a certified substitute teacher who is appointed by the BOE to replace a teacher granted a leave of absence for a semester (90 days) or more, compensation will be Step BA-2/MA-2 on the current NCTA salary schedule, effective at the start date of the assignment. Single Health Insurance will be available as per the current NCTA rates. Up to 6 sick days and 2 personal days will be accrued for the school year.

DESCRIPTION: The Special Education teacher will deliver a combination of consultant teacher support and resource room services to middle school/high school students. They will oversee the development and facilitation of students' IEP: ensuring that each student's goals are addressed; maintain and update special education records for accuracy and compliance. They will be responsible for collaborating with general education teachers and modifying instruction as needed. The special education teacher is expected to deliver explicit instruction, work collaboratively with teachers, and communicate effectively with parents. Reports to Director of Student Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with providers concerning each student's IEP and provides general education teachers with support on how to modify lesson plans and assignments;
- Writes and implements an Individualized Education Program according to student specific needs;
- Assesses skills, collects data, monitors student progress, and evaluates growth to make recommendations for instruction and support;
- Maintains appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect, confidentiality and safety. Manages classroom routines and procedures without loss of instructional time;
- Conveys knowledge of and enthusiasm for academic discipline to students;
- Works actively to involve parents in their child's activities and communicates clearly with them;
- Able to organize and prioritize daily schedule and duties;
- Performs any other duties as assigned by a Supervisor /
