The Team You’ll Work With…
As our hands-on Corporate Controller, you’ll be leading our four-person Accounting team and report directly to our CEO. You will be an integral member of our team that produces, sells and installs the world’s most beautiful tile directly to our residential and commercial clients - something no one else in the world does! You’ll also partner with our accounting firm (Withum) and other strategic partners and financial institutions that impact various parts of our organization. You’ll partner closely with our leadership team and all departments while supporting our 310+ teammates in Aromas, Spokane (WA), and throughout the U.S., including our eight showrooms.
The role is based out of either our Aromas, CA facility or remote in the US with travel. (travel is 5% of the time). The pay range for this position is $150,000 and $175,000 if in Aromas, CA and $125,000-$150,000 if remote, dependent on experience, plus a discretionary bonus and generous stock options.
The Opportunities You Will Have…
In this role, you will be working to ensure that Fireclay is exceptional regarding accounting organization, compliance, and strategic support. You will leverage your 10+ years of experience implementing best practices and ensuring GAAP compliance while conducting an ongoing analysis of key business drivers, trends, and performance indicators. Fireclay today consists of our corporate entity, Fireclay Tile, Inc., and our real estate subsidiary, Ganas LLC, plus the recently acquired Installation subsidiary, Fireclay Tile Installation LLC. Over time, we anticipate that structures will become more complex due to more structured finance opportunities and/or M&A.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Accounting department to be GAAP compliant, and provide mentorship, training and a path to up-level the team to meet the demands of a growing company.
- Oversee our full-cycle accounting processes, from the daily operating tasks, to Month-end close including the preparation, analysis, and presentation of monthly and quarterly financial reports
- Work collaboratively with outside tax accountants to ensure tax compliance and optimization
- Manage property, payroll, sales, and corporate tax complexities
- Adhere to local, state, and federal government reporting mandates and tax filing deadlines
- Identify incentives Fireclay Tile may qualify for, such as R&D, CalCompletes, and other credits
- Lead accounting analysis and integrations of future business acquisitions
- Manage cash balances, forecasting cash flows
- Oversee capital expenditure budgets (including developing an actual vs budget tracking process)
- Prepare financial reporting for financial partners, lenders, and Boards of Directors
- Partner with our People team to manage payroll and review insurance, contracts, and equity documents
- With our continued growth, accounting controls, and compliance intensify, we'll lean on you to continue supporting our audit and tax preparation responsibilities
- Your responsibilities will also include overseeing financial systems, streamlining workflows, managing special reports, acting as a controller for our factories, and assisting the CEO with annual budgeting.

About You…
You have experience as a Corporate Controller in a high growth company with a minimum of 5 years experience in manufacturing environments with an interest in the consumer/retail space. You want to apply your knowledge and talent to a hyper-growth focused company looking to build a first-in-class stakeholder-centric organization. You flourish in creative + results driven environments and find collaboration key to success.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience (CPA a plus)
- Demonstrated knowledge of finance, accounting & control principles (US GAAP)
- Advanced experience in Tax, Audit, Inventory, and Cost Accounting (MFG Production KPI’s)
- Significant experience coordinating audit activities and managing internal & external financial reporting as well as preparing consolidated financials from multiple entities
- Extensive experience and a love for leading, coaching, and developing your team members
- Building and leading accounting functions and infrastructure in a highly entrepreneurial, rapidly growing environment
- Must have recent experience with QuickBooks Enterprise and proven ability to work with cloud-based CRM in a fast-paced, large-volume environment.
- You are great at managing projects and communicating clearly. You know how to set clear goals, prioritize tasks, offer guidance, and make sure everyone understands their responsibilities and meets their deadlines.
- You are highly organized with methodical process improvement strategies and a conviction that there is always room for improvement, but that following the established process each and every time is critical to a high performing accounting department.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with at least five in a management position (in manufacturing)
- Experience with Salesforce a plus
- Knowledge and/or experience of these systems a plus: Paycor HRIS & Payroll, Asana Project Management System, Google Apps, Salesforce, Slack, Expensify, and more
