Fiber Optic Technician (Tester)
Job Summary:
Splash Fiber is looking for a talented, energetic, detail-oriented Fiber Optic Technician who is capable of working in a fast-paced team environment. Under the direction of the Lead Technician, the Fiber Technician is responsible for, but not limited to testing fiber optic systems, troubleshooting, preparing turnover documentation and documenting network inconsistencies while following all safety policies, practices and procedures. Successful candidates will thrive on the daily challenge of solving complex discrepancies in the network.

Duties/Responsibilities:
· Perform unidirectional and bidirectional OLTS and OTDR testing and troubleshooting.
· Physical inspection of fiber optic distribution panels and splice cases.
· Verify, measure and record light readings on active fibers.
· Trace fiber connections on active circuits.
· Read and interpret fiber splicing diagrams/schematics, prints, specifications and work scopes.
· Identify discrepancies between inventory systems and physical configurations.
· Accurately record and document all findings.
· Perform site surveys to validate customer’s infrastructure.
· Conduct fiber network audits.
· Prepare turnover documentation according to customer requirements: redlining of project documentation including fiber path and demarcation points, test reports, etc.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Experience with case re-entry/re-arrangement in various types of splice cases. (preferred)
· Experience with both loose tube and ribbon fiber (preferred)
· Must be able to distinguish between colors.
· Experience with troubleshooting and testing tools: OTDR, OLTS, VFL, power meter, etc. (preferred)
· Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) (preferred)
· Experience with Adobe Acrobat (preferred)
· Experience with fiber management system: Vetro (preferred)
· Ability to safely operate a bucket truck (preferred)
· Experience with ladders (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform those duties in a safe and efficient manner.
· Must be comfortable with heights and elevated platforms of 20+ feet to take down and pull up aerial fiber optic splice closures.
· Must be able to lift, reach, dig and carry heavy objects with frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and infrequent lifting of up to 100 pounds (assistance provided)
· Must be willing to work outdoors in any type of weather if needed.
Other Requirements:
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and an EXTENSIVE background check.
· Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets Company requirements.
· Must be willing to travel in and out of state up to 90% of the time.
