The McKinney Center for STEM Education
The vision of PEF’s McKinney Center for STEM Education is that “All students will graduate from high school with strong STEM knowledge and skills, enabling them to succeed in college, career, and a 21st century society.” The McKinney Center is recognized locally, regionally, and nationally as a leader in progressive STEM education. Its four areas of work include designing, implementing, and evaluating educator professional development; creating and piloting original STEM curricula; identifying STEM professionals to serve as career coaches for urban middle and high school students; and serving as the backbone organization for the Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem, the Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective, and the Pennsylvania Statewide STEM Ecosystem.

Position Summary
The Philadelphia Education Fund seeks a full-time Director of the McKinney Center for STEM Education to lead PEF’s initiatives for STEM within the Philadelphia area.
Primary Role and Responsibilities
Business and Resource Development (40%)
- Responsible for identifying and acquiring external funding through grant proposals, corporate sponsorships, individual donors, and volunteers to support (current and new) programs, and collecting, evaluating, and reporting program data.
- Negotiate contracts for services to be provided by PEF.
- Managing and tracking complex budgets and funding streams.
- Oversee the collection of pertinent data and creation of yearly summary reports of progress for partners, funders, and external audiences.
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of all programs.
Organizational and Thought Leadership (30%)
- Oversee staff and programs under the McKinney Center and STEM Initiatives.
- Create and leverage partnerships, relationship, and community based support with relevant stakeholders to continue and build upon the sustainability of the McKinney Center.
- Represent PEF at citywide leadership tables.
- Public speaking on PEF’s initiatives.
- STEM Curriculum and Professional Development (25%)
- Oversee team members curriculum writing as well as write curriculum.
- Build a network of consultants to supplement capacity of the team.
- Be the primary relationship manager on engagements, building out proprietary curriculum for Professional Development.
Administration (5 %)
- Responsible for administrative duties for the STEM team and programs including performance reviews, approval of expenses, etc.
Qualifications
- A minimum of seven (7) years leadership and management experience in overseeing multiple programs or contracts and experience as an educator.
- Master’s degree required.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of program planning, organizational structure, budgeting, administrative operations, and fundraising.
- Passion for PEF’s mission and able to communicate this passion to others.
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset for business development.
- Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing team in a multicultural structure to include professional development and mentorship.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituents.
- Strong relationship builder with the ability to find common ground, build consensus and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
- Proven experience in writing and securing grants.
- Knowledge of Philadelphia public and charter schools, central office, and other nonprofits.
- Knowledge of issues, organizations, key players, and the general landscape of STEM education in Philly and PA.
- Experience with online tools such as Microsoft Excel, SurveyMonkey, Constant Contact, and CRM/databases.
