Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Respite Coordinator to join our team at the Wind Drop-in Center. Under the direction of the Drop-in Center Manager, this position plays a crucial role in providing and coordinating respite mental health services to youth. Your responsibilities will include trauma-informed mental health assessments, crisis management, and facilitating non-therapy drop-in counseling sessions. You will also plan and facilitate youth groups, collaborate on case planning, and manage ongoing documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Provides trauma-informed, culturally and LGBTQ-affirming counseling services.
- Assesses youth needs for respite services and develops and documents service plans that best meet those needs.
- Creates and assists in implementation of group curriculum.
- Provides referrals to psychiatric, substance abuse, and other mental health care providers in the event that youth must access a higher level of service.
- Conducts monthly case reviews of all youth to ensure proper documentation is being completed.
- Provides training for staff and/or community members in mental health.
- Analyze and integrate outcome data to improve respite service delivery and complete all required documentation on time.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the agency’s demands.
- Ensures the respite program is operating in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Maintains current information on community resources and relevant local service providers and updates staff resource binder as necessary.
- Assists in the intake, orientation and coordination for clients utilizing Wind programs.
- Trains peer counselors on policies and procedures, assists in identification of training gaps and individual areas of improvement for peer counselors.
- Assists with daily activities at the Drop-In Center to maintain safety, functionality and positive group interactions, including supporting the Good Neighbor Policy.
- Provides conflict resolution as required.
- Assures adequate communication of youth information both internally and externally.
- Assists youth with accessing resources and making referrals and provides advocacy when youth encounter systemic barriers, including ongoing support.
- Works with management to ensure the Respite Program meets contractual and internal goals.
- Interacts in ways that are affirming and effective with youth who have varying genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, socio-economic statuses, and traumatic backgrounds.
- Offers all services non-judgmentally and holistically utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to change their high-risk behaviors.
- Demonstrates appropriate patience and tact when interacting with youth who could potentially be mentally ill, using a substance, defensive, angry, etc.
- Remains calm and focused in volatile situations. Demonstrated experience working in crisis intervention.
- Maintains professional behavior and appropriate boundaries with youth and staff members.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Able to work independently and as a team member.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
- Understand and accept a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
- Experience and understanding of harm reduction frameworks and how they apply to direct service.
- Working knowledge of community resources related to homelessness and youth.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse population of staff, coworkers, and external contacts.
- Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, be proactive in problem resolution, and be flexible/adaptable.
- Efficient and effective time management skills.
- Must have a valid CA driver’s license and access to reliable transportation that does not interfere with performing the essential functions of the job description, cause delay, or unexcused absences.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The compensation range is $20.00 - $20.00 per hour, depending on experience. Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and vision, 403(b), accrued time off, Mental Health Days, Anniversary Days, and paid holidays.
