POLITICO is seeking a Network Engineer with the dedication and drive to implement positive change. You will be responsible for supporting existing highly available infrastructure in a cloud-centric environment while recommending and implementing strategic initiatives and learning new technologies. In this position, you will work hand in hand with various teams across the Technology department including Development, Systems Engineering, and Cybersecurity. The ideal candidate can exercise independent judgment and decision making on complex issues and work under minimal supervision to determine the best course of action.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, deploy, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies
- Drive the implementation of various networking projects related to department initiatives
- Architect fault-tolerant and low latency solutions for geographically dispersed users
- Participate in security and compliance audits of network infrastructure
- Create and maintain documentation on both new and existing network architecture
- Engage in the diagnosis and resolution of escalated critical incidents
- Participate in an on-call schedule established by your manager and be immediately available while on-call to diagnose and resolve incidents
What You’ll Need:
- 3+ years of experience as a Network Engineer or similar role (education and certification in lieu of experience possible)
- Foundational understanding of the TCP/IP stack and routing/switching
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and robust problem-solving skills
- Experience with physical networking devices and cabling, such as wireless solutions and network closets
- Experience with the installation, configuration, and management of routers, switches, load balancers, proxies, etc.
- Knowledge of Fortinet and/or Cisco routers & switches
Nice To Have:
- Possession of a network certification (CCNA, Network+, etc.)
- Experience with cloud networking, particularly AWS
- Familiarity with content delivery networks
- Experience with Zero Trust Network Access
- Experience with network automation using Ansible or Python
- Knowledge of Git and CI/CD frameworks
