Summary/Objective The unit director/coordinator support off-unit activities related to persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia, such as providing training to facility staff, assessment of potential residents, counseling to potential residents and their families, and consultation/assessment/care planning for facility residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia who do not reside on the unit.
Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Supports all staff on the floor.
2. Trains all new staff on the Special Care Unit in dementia care.
3. Conducts continued training for all staff in the Special Care Unit to accommodate compliance requirements.
4. Helps with resident and family issues.
5. Create techniques for creating an environment that minimizes challenging behavior from residents with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia.
6. Utilizes and educates staff on methods of identifying and minimizing safety risks to residents with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia.
7. Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, accidents/incidents and supply issues to the supervisor.
8. Assure that established infection control and prevention practices and standard precautions are maintained at all times.
9. Follow established safety precautions when preforming tasks and using equipment and supplies.
10. Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Guests and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.
11. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
12. Ensure each Guest receives person centered care.
13. Answers and responds to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Guest care areas.
14. Recognize your role as part of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) efforts of your organization.
15. Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
16. Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
17. Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
18. Any noted opportunities for improvement will be shared with leadership in the organization.
19. Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success.
20. Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.
21. Participate in compliance trainings as scheduled and adhere to compliance plan.
