Job Description
The Social Recreation LSA II facilitates the daily operations of all Recreation Programs classes and collaborates with the Life Skills Program Supervisors. The Social Recreation LSA II responsibilities include, but are not limited to developing, scheduling, organizing, and direction of quality activities for OSBI participants, and ensuring the recreational, physical, intellectual, and social needs of each participant are met in accordance with DDS specifications and regulations, OSBI standards, and participant ISP goals and objectives. The Social Recreation LSA II is also responsible to supervise, mentor and support Recreation Employees, communicate regularly with the Life Skills Programs and parents or guardians. The Social Recreation LSA II is also responsible for executing Friday Fun Nights, programs events during program hours as well as after program hours including staffing – in collaboration with the Social Recreation Supervisor II.
Qualifications:
· 2+ years working with individuals with intellectual disability preferred
· Proficiency in computer use (Microsoft Office Applications & scheduling software)
· Demonstration of strong experience in: leadership, innovation, reliability, and effective communication
· Strong organizational, inventory, events preparation and delivery skills
· Demonstration of knowledge of DDS and State regulations and best practices, and ability to implement these practices
· Appropriate certifications and clearance according to DDS & GGRC Regulations
· Good driving record, must pass MVR inquiry
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Recreation and Life Skills Teams to facilitate and continuously improve the responsiveness of the recreational program by managing the day to day needs of the Music, Fine Arts, Health, Fitness, and/or Dance programs etc. to address participant’s needs and ISP goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with the Recreation team to plan communications and other print materials for Recreation activities, events, as well as assisting in development of budgets, assistance in program purchases and collection of payments, and submission of accurate data, receipts and accurate allocation reports to the Finance Department.
- Model and guide program team when needed to consider safety and proactive support when supporting participants during campus or community activities.
- Consider the welfare, growth and development of program participants as a top priority in all organizational and program decision making, planning, and development, and model and demonstrate appropriate behavior techniques with program participants and mentor support staff to do the same.
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with participants and staff to address concerns, maintain positive relationships, and serve as an advocate for participants and a resource for parents/guardians, as well as maintaining an ongoing, positive relationships with community partners.
- Collaborate with Recreation and Life Skills Teams to develop and implement strategies to schedule meaningful recreation programs and events for Participants and ensure that such opportunities are provided to all OSBI participants.
- Serve as a model and mentor to direct support staff when serving at an event, ensuring that they have clearly defined roles and are aware of the requirements of their tasks.
- Handle difficult situations with a positive attitude by actively seeking problem resolution, creative solutions, and program and organizational enhancements to ensure individual and team performance as well as program effectiveness.
- Motivate direct support team and work with supervisors, directors, and others on the program teams to achieve effective collaborative interaction and mutual respect and support.
