Job Description
Position: Executive Director
Reports To: Board of Directors
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-exempt
Hours: 30+ hours weekly based on organizational needs & applicant qualifications
Compensation: $26-$30/hour
Mission Statement
To come alongside children and families in the child welfare system and show them that they are not alone. These families can include foster families, kinship caregivers, and parents trying to reunify with their children.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, management, or related field
- Experience in nonprofit management preferred
- Experience with and understanding of foster care and child welfare preferred
- Knowledge of essential functions and clerical systems, word processing and spreadsheet applications, database and presentation software • Maintain a valid driver’s license
- Have and maintain an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by liability insurance guidelines
- Able to pass a criminal background check
Duties & Responsibilities
Program Service
- Along with a volunteer board of directors, carry out the mission and purpose of the organization, including programmatic development to support the mission
- Manage, coordinate, and evaluate the day-to-day operations of the organization through all phases of FVW’s programs and services
- Promote innovation and creativity in both program and support areas • Evaluate and continually improve quality of services provided, volunteer recruitment, training, and retention
- Maintain a quality environment for clients to receive services
- Occasionally serve as liaison to Foster Village Inc. in Austin, TX
- Attend training as required by the Board of Directors
Executive Leadership & Personnel Management
- Hire, recruit, and retain well-trained, capable, and diverse staff and volunteers, according to the needs of the organization
- Directly oversee paid staff and unpaid volunteers
- Oversee all human resource services
- Support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities, complying with applicable laws and bylaws, and conducting Board business effectively and efficiently
Essential Functions & Operations
- Work with the Board of Directors and program staff to develop and maintain policies and standard operating procedures
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including organization insurance coverage
- Implement and monitor, with the support of vendors as appropriate, all essential and operations functions, including facilities management, IT and technology, supplies, data management, and reporting
- Implement and monitor, with the support of vendors as appropriate, the organization's communication plan, including newsletters, social media, and donor communication
Financial Management
- In coordination with the Board of Directors, prepare and implement the annual operating budget
- In coordination with the Board Treasurer and related vendors (i.e. bookkeeper, etc), oversee accounting and financial functions, including payroll, bookkeeping, preparation of financial reports, and annual Form 990
- Maintain vendor relationships with financial service providers Fund Development
- Prepare and implement annual fund development plan
- Prepare grant proposals and manage grant funding and reporting • Cultivate and maintain private individual and corporate donors
- Implement fundraising events and strategies
Strategic Planning, Capacity Building & Stakeholder Relations
- Plan for both short-term and long-term organizational needs, trends, and concerns
- Speak and passionately advocate for the organization and for children, youth, and families
- Visualize, understand, and communicate emerging trends in child welfare
- Implement and oversee organization efforts, training, and accountability regarding cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with the Board of Directors, local faith communities, related coalitions, other social service agencies and nonprofits, school districts, courts, donors, civic and cultural organizations, staff, and clients
Working Conditions
A cell phone is required, and a stipend will be provided to offset the business use of the cell phone. Occasional travel, which may include an overnight stay is required. Reliable transportation is required. This position requires time in the FVW offices which may include sitting, standing, and lifting of care closet materials. Hybrid/remote work as a portion of this position’s hours may be approved by the Board of Directors.
Other
The Executive Director must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical conduct and behavior consistent with the agency’s mission and core values. The Executive Director must learn and be knowledgeable of FVW policies and procedures. Professional appearance and demeanor are required. The Executive Director must be punctual and courteous. Strengths required for this position are organizational skills and diplomacy dealing with the public, in person and by telephone.
