SUMMARY
Hope & Help operates the Idea Orlando - Orlando Syringe Exchange Program, known as the Infectious Disease Elimination Act (IDEA). The program includes a Harm Reduction Health Educator who supports the Harm Reduction Coordinator and Harm Reduction Case Manager. This program consists of a drop-in center and a mobile outreach team in Orange County, Florida. It provides free harm reduction supplies, confidential screening for HIV & Hepatitis, community resources, and linkage to care. Hope & Help staff are expected to work under the principles of harm reduction while prioritizing trauma-informed care. The SSP team is responsible for providing mobile, delivery, and pop-up services throughout Central Florida, including pop-up outreach and medical services, delivery of harm reduction supplies, and mobile HIV/STI testing.
The SPP team works with the Harm Reduction team to prevent HIV/STIs, provide harm reduction education, and distribute supplies. Additionally, we dispense naloxone and fentanyl testing strips through our Overdose Response Program (ORP) and offer resources and micro-counseling to support the complex needs of our service users. Many of our service users experience comorbidities and chronic homelessness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
1. Works in all aspects of the Syringe Service Program (SSP), including supply management, and state law adherence regarding supply tracking.
2. Aquires and maintains SSP data, as required by law inorder to help in the timly submition of monthly reports to for authoritative oversight.
3. Assist in organizing and managing outreach team activities, including staff scheduling, supply procurement, and vehicle maintenance.
4. Build rapport and relationships with community members, including sex workers, drug users, community associations, and local business owners.
5. Assist in the facilitation of groups and trainings for clients and staff.
6. Distribute promotional items, Naloxone, and safer injection equipment, while also providing relevant risk reduction education and counseling in a non-judgmental way.
7. Engage in harm reduction-based street outreach, mobile pop-up clinics, and delivery services throughout Orange County FL, during the day and at night.
8. Drive the outreach vehicle and act as a team leader on outreach shifts.
9. Work in the Main Office, assisting with client intake, health screening, clinical services, mental health services, as well as other SSP activities, as needed.
10. Support case management activities, as needed.
11. Assist in planning and coordination of new programs, initiatives, and special events.
12. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other work-related duties and special projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise part-time and student staff and volunteers who engage in outreach services.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or an associate degree and one (1) year of HIV or health education experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of HIV or health education experience.
