Position Summary: The Division of School Leadership is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support non-content related publication of the Chancellor’s memo with representatives of the Chancellor’s office, Press Office, Legal, other New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) teams, and community-based organizations (CBOs) as well as serve as a liaison to all NYCPS offices and CBOs in developing communications plans that are aligned to the protocols for all Central asks of schools and principals. The Communications Coordinator will also support the Senior Director of School Workflow Management and Communications in developing and implementing strategies and recommendations for improvements to NYCPS internal and external communication channels. The Communications Coordinator also leads the planning and publishing of Field Staff Digest for superintendents and Field Offices support staff and Principals Digest for schools and assists NYCPS divisions and offices with policies and procedures, as well as workflow planning around important key dates. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Works closely with all offices and divisions within the NYCPS, including superintendent teams and Field Office support staff.
Responsibilities
- Supports the Senior Director with the development of standards, policies, and content across online planning and main communication channels to all schools and field staff, including Field Staff Digest, Principals Digest, and all other SWMC tools by:
- Planning, coordinating, and editing weekly communications to 1,800+ schools in Principals Digest, and to NYCPS Field Offices.
- Supporting efforts to develop, design, and implement new online platforms for Field Staff Digest and Principals Digest.
- Coordinating with the Chancellor’s Office, DSL, Press Office, DIIT, and all other NYCPS divisions to help ensure coherence across multiple internal and external communication platforms.
- Serving as a liaison to all NYCPS offices in developing communications plans that are aligned to the protocols for all Central asks of schools and principals.
- Working with directors on the execution and messaging of confidential and sensitive communications.
- Assisting in the development of communications that are clear and actionable for all field staff and schools.
- Developing of standards and policy for communications to the field, schools, and the community.
- Advising other NYCPS offices on the content and layout of their communications to schools.
- Creates, implements, and maintains submission and revision protocols for the Digests by:
- Assisting in establishing an understanding of the operational structure of NYCPS teams and offices in relation to school workflow communications submissions.
- Working with SWMC team members to determine best practices for integrating and enhancing document sharing platform into the submission, revision, and publication process.
- Advising other teams about policy and operational changes to the Digests and ensures standardization of protocols across submitting teams/offices.
- Researches, develops, and advises on strategies for technical communication system improvements to all SWMC online communication tools, to provide principals with easier access to data and task management information. This entails:
- Supporting NYCPS divisions on timing, project-sequencing, and prioritization across the NYCPS.
- Collaborating with other NYCPS communications points to develop and maintain a comprehensive principals’ calendar.
- Collecting and analyzing data regarding the volume, content, submitters, and recurrences of items to inform communications policy.
- Conducting research on how subscribers and submitters use the weekly publications and using responses to inform decisions made by the School Workflow Management team.
- Keeping school facing tools up-to date on several Microsoft 365 services including but not limited to, SharePoint Online, Forms, Power Bi, Planner, Project, and Power Automate.
- Researching and utilizing automation services (Power Automate) to enhance user experience and team productivity.
- Developing video tutorials for principals to support their adoption and use of workflow-supporting technologies.
- Supports the execution of school workflow project plans and communicate with key stakeholders, developing cross-functional committees, task forces or other collaboration methods to engage Central offices in seeking solutions around principals’ workflow concerns.
- Develops the writing, planning, and communication skills of colleagues.
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.
Preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications, including SharePoint Online, Forms, Power Bi, Planner, Project, and Power Automate.
- Project management experience and ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
- Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
- Strong copywriting, copyediting, and proofreading ability; familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style 16/e.
- Ability to collaborate on a team and with a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Creative problem-solver, with the ability to perform thoughtful analysis around important organizational and change management issues.

Salary: $82,000 - $86,900
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
