Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement, the Director provides leadership, vision and direction for the Simmons Center while supervising the Assistant Director of the Center. This includes collaborating across campus to expand development opportunities in diversity, equity and inclusion for faculty, staff and students. The Director works closely with student organizations on programming, leadership, and educational sessions. As a highly-valued campus partner, the Director continues the tradition of providing a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for all students at the Evett Simmons Center for Multicultural Appreciation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead, mentor, and manage the overall mission and vision of the Evett L. Simmons Center for Multicultural Appreciation in coordination with the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement.
- Manage the overall support for cultural student organizations, including registration, advisor training, organizational development, onboarding, and training.
- Regularly track and conduct assessments of all Simmons Center events and programming.
- Actively participate as a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council.
- Serve as Advisor to the Multicultural Student Council.
- Oversee the facilitation of leadership and civic engagement programming.
- Maintain a relationship with the local International Student Association (ISO).
- Develop and implement new student orientation for International students.
- Partner with faculty, staff and students to provide educational sessions in the classrooms, offices and residence halls related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Sensitivity.
- Plan and host a wide variety of programs and activities at the Evett Simmons Center for Multicultural Appreciation.
- Contribute to the Student Life Leadership Team.
- Design and implement the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Impact.
- Provide reports, as requested, for the Board of Trustees.
- Collaborate with the Chief Diversity Officer and all campus partners to provide stellar student experiences.
- Manage departmental budget.
- Assist in facilitating major campus-wide events, including but not limited to Blast Off, Southern Takeover, Winter Wonderland, Fraternity/Sorority Recruitment, Frank Lloyd Wright Day, and Fairwell Festival.
- Serve on the Student Engagement Event Management Rotation.
- Contribute to the success of the Center for Multicultural Appreciation by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
