Position: R&D Technician
Overview:
Celadyne Technologies, based in Chicago, IL, is recruiting one full-time R&D technician who will be conducting experiments on advancing proton exchange materials for fuel cells and electrolyzers. Celadyne Technologies, Inc. aims to create more efficient and compact fuel cells and electrolyzers to help decarbonize energy with hydrogen.
Due to the company's nature, we are looking for highly creative, skilled, and curious people who can tackle the issues without fear of failure. This will be an immersive startup experience where you will be working with the founding team to address climate change with your work directly.
Celadyne is a current materials company focused on developing better membranes and catalysts for hydrogen devices. These materials are the heart of fuel cells, electrolyzers, and electrochemical compressors – critical instruments for hydrogen usage, production, and compression. We are a team of seven, and the U.S. Air Force, Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, and Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy fund us.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
· Develop polymers for fuel cells and electrolyzer applications.
· Characterize polymers through gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, titrations, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, etc.
· Cast thin films and create polymer composite membranes.
· Assist in scaling up and building an automated chemical reactor.
· Assist in developing and preparing proposals, manuscripts (external and internal), and patents.
· Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, health, and program requirements.
· Maintain a solid commitment to implementing and continuing Celadyne’s values and ethics.
Basic Qualifications:
- An Associate's Degree in a science related field or 2+ years in a an analytical materials testing role
· Experience in handling chemicals and working in a wet laboratory.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Willingness to relocate to Chicago, IL.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Six Sigma
· Background in post-modification chemistry.
· Experience building and designing a chemical reactor.
