Job Title: HSE Associate
Department: Environmental Health and Safety
FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the HSE Manager, coordinates the necessary programs, reports, training, audits, and systems in order to comply with all environmental and safety laws and regulations and to continuously improve our Health and Safety and Environmental performance.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:
- Perform environmental and safety audits in order to assess compliance to environmental and safety laws and regulations, including audits to assess compliance with COVID-19 procedures.
- Monitor all waste activities such as generation, storage, inventory, transportation, and disposal.
- Train and/or coordinate training for all plant personnel on environmental, hygiene and safety matters, such as material handling equipment (forklifts and pallets jacks), use of hazardous chemicals, hazard communication program, emergency plant evacuation, audits, emergency response, etc.
- Investigate accidents related to personal injury or property damage due to industrial activity in the facility in order to make and enforce recommendations to avoid occurrences.
- Prepare all environmental reports to the appropriate government agencies in accordance with the laws and regulations.
Perform investigations and studies in order to improve the effectiveness and reduce the use of chemicals in the facility and the generation of wastes.
- Design, develop, evaluate, and/or purchase equipment in order to comply with environmental, hygiene, and safety laws.
Perform hygiene studies, such as noise survey, heat stress, air monitoring, waste sampling, etc. In order to provide employees a safe working environment.
- Obtain appropriate disposal permits for the hazardous, solid and special waste streams.
Maintain and file environmental, hygiene, and safety documents as per internal policies and procedures and environmental and safety laws and regulations.
- Evaluate SDS and approve or disapprove the use of new and existing chemicals in the facility.
- Keep management informed of all new and revised environmental, hygiene and safety laws and regulations.
- Determine and recommend the appropriate personnel protection clothing and equipment to safeguard the employees from potential hazardous and contaminating exposures to toxic substances.
- Determine accident prevention methods and provide the necessary training to all employees to comply with OSHA requirements.
- Take appropriate measures to establish control of hazardous conditions on working environment and maintain proper documentation of corrective action taken.
- Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, unsafe guarding and unusual condition to the proper supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Two to five years HSE experience in a manufacturing facility, food manufacturing preferred
- Sound knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and requirements
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Teamwork and customer focus oriented.
- Ability to train and coach others.
- Relevant certifications helpful (CHMM, ASP or CSP)

- Able to balance while ascending/descending ladders and scaffolding using safety procedures
- Vision abilities include: close, distant, and color vision
- Able to adjust to changing demands and environments quickly
- Must be able to work in a variable temperature between 30-40F
