SALARY: $70,000 - $75,000
SUMMARY
Reporting to the CEO, the Urban Design Manger will manage program activities, build relationships, facilitate community outreach and discussion, maximize community assets, facilitate capacity-building efforts, and directly partner with community stakeholders to implement a pipeline of community-driven placemaking and real estate development projects in Omaha.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Urban Design Lab Management
- Manage day-to-day operations of Urban Design Lab and Community Hub(s).
- Work with the CEO to manage and activate the company-owned mixed-use property,
- Fabric, LLC, including liaising with the property management company; recruiting, leasing to, managing, and supporting commercial and residential tenants; and managing community events.
Community Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies for effective community engagement.
- Build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with community development stakeholders that will support Spark’s mission including partners/fellows/ and artists.
- Facilitate outreach programs to ensure inclusivity and diverse representation.
- Act as a liaison between the organization and the community, addressing concerns and promoting a positive relationship.
- Help create and implement community development capacity-building programming that serves the East Omaha community.
- Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships to enhance community impact.
- Be a positive representative of Spark and a progressive advocate for holistic community development., operations/administration.
- Lead project planning, execution, and monitoring in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Ensure projects align with organizational goals and community needs.
- Successfully manage the execution of annual activity as laid out by leadership.
- Develop written procedures and systems to better manage the program.
- Collaborate with CEO and community stakeholders to master plan and implement Spark’s holistic real estate development projects, placemaking efforts, and capacity building programs in Omaha.
- Assist with project and program planning and fundraising, including logic modeling grant writing and reporting, and meeting deadlines.
- Oversee program budgets and enforcing financial procedures.
- Solicit input and ideas from team members to enhance project strategies and outcomes.
- Collaborate on joint initiatives, leveraging resources and expertise for mutual benefit.
- Work effectively as a contributing and engaged member of the Spark team and be accountable toward organizational goals and outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Requires four to six years of professional experience in community development or urban planning, including at least one year of recruiting and managing volunteers and community groups.
- Fluency in English required; biliteracy in Spanish preferred.
- Exceptional project management skills with sound time management, organizational and follow-through skills, and an ability to coordinate complex activities and prioritize conflicting demands and deadlines.
- Familiarity with Omaha area, particularly East Omaha, including a thorough understanding of historical and current economic, social, cultural, and political dynamics.
- Demonstrated experience in neighborhood-scale community development, transit-oriented development, and mixed-use development.
- Outstanding business development skills and the ability to serve as a compelling representative of the organization with a variety of stakeholders.
- Able to implement organizational and programmatic strategies and individual work plans to reach goals.
- Able to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends when necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and working with Apple computers.
- Requires valid identification and ability to provide own transportation.
- Certification requirements on IAP2 certification, Grow America 410 and Grow America 420.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The Urban Design and Community Hub Manager is a full-time permanent position. Spark’s office hours are generally from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This will be modified to accommodate Urban Design Lab. Flexible scheduling is allowed. The employee should expect to lead or participate in programs and stakeholder meetings that occur before or after office hours, and on the weekends.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages team members, various partners, consultants and contractors who provide operational support to the organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must be able to use a computer and perform routine office and clerical tasks. Ability to type from written material, read from a computer monitor, and engage in video conferencing is required.
TRAVEL
Currently, the employee is rarely expected to travel locally and there are no expectations for out-of- town travel. Typically, the employee can expect regular local travel for meetings and events within the Omaha/Council Bluffs region, and overnight travel outside of the region for trainings and conferences approximately two or three times a year.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Starting in 2024, Spark will require staff to be in office two days a week with the possibility of a third sometime during the year. Outside the in-office requirement, staff members have a flexible work-from-home policy that allows staff to work from the office or elsewhere so long as their schedule is communicated with their supervisor.
