Our paint shop services a variety of clients and projects including fleet vehicles (trucks, tractors and trailers), RV’s and travel trailers, cars, motorcycles and manufactured components. Our work includes some collision repair, complete repaints, and specialty paints, with a focus in industrial painting.
Our team members work on all steps of the process: surface preparation, part set-up, product application, quality control, buffing and polishing, and packaging.
We prefer a candidate with at least one year experience.
Job activities include the following:
Clean and Prepare Surfaces
Painters must first prepare the surface they are going to paint. If there are previous finishes on the surface, they remove them by scuffing, sanding, masking, grit blast or chemical rinse. They will then clean, smooth the surface, and let it dry before painting.
Prepare Paints
Painters need to be able to or be able to learn to read product data sheets and mix a variety of paint products using either a scale system or ratio cups. We currently stock and mix off a Sikkens automotive mixing bank using Mixit Cloud and order various products from the major paint manufacturers. For industrial painting, a painter must be able to read a data sheet to determine mix ratios, flash times, and cure times.
Apply Paint
Painters use a variety of techniques and tools to paint surfaces. They may use spray equipment (HVLP, pressure pot, etc), airbrushes, stencils, rollers or brushes. Painters must choose the best tool for the job at hand. Our jobs require applying a variety of paint products/systems to different substrates such as primers, pre-finishes, finishing coats (single stage, base-clear, candies). Our shop mostly processes aluminum, steel, fiberglass, and plastic parts.
Clean Work Areas
Painters clean up the area after they have finished a job. They must carefully follow all guidelines for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste.
Maintain Equipment
Painters are responsible for maintenance of their painting equipment, some of which is quite technical. They must be able to troubleshoot any problems that the equipment may have and communicate with management if there is an issue or parts need to be ordered.
A good candidate should be comfortable applying paints using an HVLP gun, preparing parts for paint including sanding and masking, and sanding and polishing finished coatings. Detail-oriented and dependable, a successful painter can follow instructions and consistently produce good work. In addition to these general skills and personality traits, we are seeking candidates with the following skills:
Ability to read and track work orders on a computer
Ability to differentiate between colors.
Ability to work on multiple priorities with frequent interruptions
Ability to use hand and power tools and equipment
Strong communication skills
Experience in automotive or industrial equipment painting
Experience wet painting using a gun
Must be willing and able to pass a drug test. Marijuana exempt.
