We are seeking a Structural Engineer with Building Exterior Restoration experience reports to the NY Office Director and is responsible for the administration and implementation of all phases of work related to the structural repairs and exterior façade restoration,.
You will work on challenging projects and focus on “shell and skeleton,” embracing all components of the building envelope and underlying structural framing. We work on medium and high rise buildings with a variety of building systems, from historic landmark to modern sky scrapers with curtain wall systems.
The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of building exterior restoration experience.
- Fundamental understanding of how Building Envelope systems work
- Fundamental knowledge of historic building structural systems
- Good understanding of Building Codes as they relate to construction of projects
- Ability to read and comprehend architectural and engineering plans, with ability to provide value engineering recommendations.
- Knowledge of construction, engineering, procurement, industry standards and other project-related activities, their interfaces, and interdependencies.
- PE license required, FE will be considered
- Ability to perform façade inspections of medium and high-rise buildings via suspended scaffold.
- Experience with structural analysis software
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, design analysis and construction cost estimates
- Perform construction related services including shop drawing reviews, response to requests for information, periodic construction site observation, and occasional specialized structural inspections
- Collaborate with architects and designers and building contractors on design and construction of projects
- Knowledge of Design software for structural analysis (ETABS, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, GSA, etc.), general collaboration software (e.g. Bluebeam Studio)
- Ability to perform structural analysis of reinforced concrete, structural steel and timber with use of Design Manuals (ASCE, IBC, ACI, AISC, etc.)
- Knowledge of AutoCAD
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to conduct façade inspection of high-rise buildings
- Must be able to sit and work on a computer and type for long periods of time
- Ability to use repetitive motion and type
- Ability to travel to and navigate through job sites
- Ability to lift 15 pounds
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges to have conversation and prepare, inspect or review documents.
Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy weight.
