Duties and Responsibilities
A seasoned professional with 10 years of relevant experience is required to support NASA’s Space Flight Awareness program based out of Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. The candidate will lead the Agency’s Space Flight Awareness (SFA) Award Program including calls for nominations, close development and execution of the scoring process, ceremony planning, adherence to budget, and managing inventory and accuracy of all materials such as pins, patches and posters.
- Responsible for management of complex awards program
- Responsible for actively developing spreadsheets and schedules to support inventory management, task management and award program nomination ranking and scoring
- Responsible for generating routine and/or ad-hoc reports
- Duties include directly interfacing with government customers, vendors, award recipients, the astronaut office, graphic designers and printers
- Duties also include attention to detail, and keeping inventory accurate and current in the storage area and in Salesforce
- Must be able to provide strong guidance and counsel regarding event planning, schedules, problem solving
- Must be able to understand complex work environment mixed with civil servants, contractors, departments, executives and programs
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks
- Will direct, guide, and coordinate activities of agency importance
- Generate reports detailing metrics and media impact when requested
- Must be onsite at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston most days
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, writing, or other appropriate area of specialization from an accredited college or university
- Ten (10) years of relevant experience
- Self-starter with a high-level of organizational and record-keeping skills
- Proven ability to learn and quickly operate within new technologies
- Extensive experience managing, tracking, and maintaining product orders in support of company initiatives
- Skilled in full-cycle event coordination and budget maintenance
- Experienced in planning high-level events on accelerated schedules
- Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities on tight deadlines
- Proficient in creating yearly planning timelines to include specific event coordination tasks and product orders, and adhering to those schedules
- Forward-thinker with an eye for process improvements
- Experienced in client communications and relationship building
- Communications experience including but not limited to: developing communications plans, writing articles, drafting reports, analyzing data, designing and building presentations
- Must be able to work independently with strict adherence to deadlines
- NASA experience preferred
- Flexibility to travel and work nights, holidays and weekends
Physical Requirements

If required, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time to visit other company sites. Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. This position may require an employee to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, reach, push, and pull. The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
