Description
The Town of Hobgood is a municipal government that provides water/wastewater, electric, general waste pickup and other services to approximately 600 customers. The qualified applicant shall have the ability to perform all jobs necessary or the ability to learn all jobs necessary within a predetermined amount of time.
Utility Worker I
- Performs activities related to water/wastewater and electric system maintenance.
- Installs, repairs and replaces water mains, water services, water meters, fire hydrants, backflow devices, sewer lines, laterals cleanouts, manholes collection lines, transformers, primary and secondary utility poles, and other related water/wastewater and electric system assets
- Responds to Service Orders related to line locations and marks water/wastewater and underground electric facilities.
- Performs customer support activity and interacts with the public in a professional manner
- Develops a working knowledge and understanding of safety practices for all materials used in water/wastewater and electric system operations.
- Notifies customers of scheduled and emergency outages
- Develops knowledge of system operations, control settings, and plant/lift station operations
- Reads and interprets technical and operational documents, manuals, blueprints, system maps, construction specs & standards and diagrams.
- Reads meters manually and/or using automated equipment
- Respond quickly and accurately to service requests
- May operate heavy machinery including dump truck, bucket truck, digger derrick and back hoe as well as other related equipment in performing skilled and semiskilled duties for water/wastewater and electric system maintenance
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Good communication skills required including demonstrated fluency with reading, writing and speaking the English language. Microsoft Word and Excel skills preferred.
- Basic math skills
- Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License issued by the state where employed is mandatory.
- Must be able to take and pass the C-well and B-distribution certification exams within one year of employment is mandatory.
- Must be able to supervise other Town employees when required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE:
- Work in Confined Spaces
- Work in areas exposed to noise and chemicals
- Work in extreme weather conditions
- Lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs
- Climb inspection ladders and perform work up to the limits of elevated water storage tanks
- Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching handling, grasping, fine dexterity, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision including color determination, hearing, foot & hand controls

Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per hour
