JOB SUMMARY:
UNI is seeking a Director of Land Use and Community Leadership to provide oversight and strengthen current programs as well as develop and implement programs that enhance our service area. The Director of Land Use and Community Leadership will lead a community planning and implementation process to identify gaps in existing neighborhood services and opportunities for new projects or programs. The Director of Land Use and Community Leadership will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely other program directors and their teams to develop and coordinate strategies to improve the environment and social cohesion of our service area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide oversight for the following programs and initiatives:
- Southwest Urban Arts Mural Project (SUAMP)
- Green Team
- Southwest Food Cultivators (SWFC)
- Engaged Leaders Initiating Tomorrow’s Education (ELITE)
- Youth Advisory Board (YAB)
- Land Use Plan
- Community Organizing Plan
- Land Stewardship Program
- Supervise the Green Team Success Coach, the Southwest Urban Arts Mural Project Coordinator, the Southwest Food Cultivator Coordinator, Community Organizers, interns, and contractors working with the land use and creative place-making programs.
- Assess existing programs operating within the organization’s neighborhood and identify service deficiencies and opportunities.
- Implement new opportunities identified by and resulting from community engagement or organizing processes.
- Build relationships with government, non-profit and private sector partners as needed to successfully implement programs, particularly related to land use and economic development.
- Work with consultants and non-profits to attract and /or integrate new or improved services.
- Generate resources for land use and creative place-making programs and activities through grant-writing, public relations and donations
- Administer the implementation of grants, generate reports and support data collection to ensure accountability and positive impact to our service area
- Staff the Land Use and Creative Placemaking Committee which may include creating the agenda and reporting the committee deliberations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in community development, urban planning, social work, or similarly related fields.
- Three (3) years of experience in community development, urban planning, social work, or similarly related fields, including two (2) years of supervisory experience (preferred)
- Willingness to learn the principles and practices of urban planning, federal and state laws related to planning and urban development, municipal government organization and functions, language and format used in legal property records, neighborhood based planning techniques and policy formulation and analysis methods.
- Experience in community organizing, social services, or neighborhood development
- Demonstrable skills in team building and leadership
- Ability to work effectively with residents’ groups and people of all backgrounds (race, ethnicity, socioeconomics, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, etc.)
- Commitment to the best practices of place-based neighborhood work, comprehensive community development and youth development.
- Have initiative, motivation and the ability to work toward the attainment of goals and objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of grant writing and grant implementation including managing grant budgets and grant related reports
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekend
- Computer proficiency including Zoom, Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other platforms. Have expertise in accessing Internet resources.
- Driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation
- Familiarity with the Springwells neighborhood and its stakeholders
- Fluency in Spanish (preferred)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Working outdoors and lifting 10 pounds.
ENVIRONMENT: Availability for extended hours during peak periods and attendance at evening and weekend meetings. Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions. The office is located in a smoke-free facility. Local travel and some out-of-town travel is required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Compensation: $50,000 to $65,000 commensurate with experience.
Paid Personal Time off (PTO) in accordance with UNI’s policy and 13 holidays, competitive health benefits with employer contribution after 90 days of employment.
